Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console

1 Answer

Xbox360 disc tray motor won't stop spinning

When I turn on my xbox my disc tray opens very fast and the motor stays spinning in a constant open motion so I can't close the tray with the eject button or even my hand. If I do push it shut, it just shoots back open and I can't figure out why. I opened the disc drive a few days ago to reposition the laser so it could read my disc and now it doesn't work. I was careful not to touch anything I wasn't in there for and I can't figure out what I did to it. Any suggestions? Thanks in advanced.

i don't think you've read my question at all... the MOTOR that opens the disc tray is always spinning in an open motion. It has nothing to do with the faceplate of my xbox or anything on the xbox in that case because i've tried plugging it into another xbox that doesnt have a disc tray and it still does the same thing

    Hi Matt,

If it's not an issue with your faceplate or the disc tray than it is likely a hardware issue that can only be dealt with by Microsoft.

Please use the contact information I provided below and contact them.

Hi Matt,

Here is the process for troubleshooting this specific issue:

  • First remove your disc from the tray. I assume you have already done this.
  • Ensure your faceplate (the front of your system) is on correctly. Sometimes these can become loose and off kilter. Press the two edges firmly with your hands and "push" it into place.
  • Push the eject button. Although it hasn't worked in the past, adjusting the faceplate may correct the issue.
  • If that doesn't work, move the disc tray drive gently from left to right when it is open. Again, be gentle-- what we're trying to do here is slightly adjust the disc tray in case it isn't entering your system properly.

Still not working? Time to send it to Microsoft for repair. You can find all of that information on their official support site. Click here for more details.

Hope that helps!

I've tryed putting xbox360 games in a xbox360 but it sais open tray

The XBox 360 is a wonderful video game console, however, with heavy usage, the laser (and/or other components in the drive) will eventually burn out. The first signs of the laser starting to burn out is that your game will start freezing during game play. Eventually the games will stop reading altogether and you will get an "OPEN TRAY" message when you put a disc in and close the tray. What this means is that the XBox 360 thinks that there is no disc in the system.

You can find more information about this issue, find parts to repair it, or send your system to repair all at the following website:

Xbox 360 Console: My xbox 360 will keep opening its tray and it won'...

The very first thing, I would suggest you is to check the CD cover, as sometimes labels on CDs prevent tray to close.
If that does not work then do the following.
Remove disc from the tray, make sure the faceplate is on correctly.
The faceplate is the plastic piece on the front of your console.

• Press firmly around the edges of your faceplate to snap it into place (make sure it is flush with the rest of the console). If the faceplate is not on correctly, the disc tray won't close.

• If you find that the faceplate is the problem, please contact Xbox customer support to order a replacement faceplate.

If this does not resolve your issue, please try step 3 and other steps from following link.

If you wish you can also use following link of interactive troubleshooting wizard, which will assist you to narrow down on the issue.

My xbox360 won't read disc's it just says open tray

I learned this from a Youtube video and this did the trick for me. Hopefully, it will solve it for your X-Box 360 too! 1. Put disc into X-Box 360. 2. Turn X-Box 360 off. 3. Open tray. 4. Take disc out. 5. Slam Tray 6. Turn off X-Box 360 (Immediately after slamming the tray shut) 7. Turn on X-Box 360 _______________________________________________________ Your dvd drive probably has a bad motor. There are three motors inthere. One moves the tray. One moves the laser and another spins theDVD. If the tray ejects than that motor is fine. If you hear the discspinning then that motor is fine. Take the top off the dvd drive andsee it the laser moves when you close the tray it should move slightlythe laser should bob up and down and light up if none of that happensyou have a bad laser drive motor or bad laser. The solution is to buy agood DVD drive the same as your make and change the pcb boards (thecircuit board in the DVD drive) make sure yor pcb stays with yourconsole as the motherboard and pcb are keyed together.

Xbox360 disc drive

Hi, it sounds like you have the" open tray" error that is very common with the 360s. How you fix this is you take your DVD drive apart and look at the laser assembly, there are 2 screws on the side of it, look at the one on the left. Turn this screw to the left a VERY little bit at a time and keep checking it every time you turn it until it stops the open tray error.

Old xbox360 disc tray wont close at all

open it up ( very carefully) and check to see if the disk tray end is still attached or alligned to the plastic gears that eject the tray. if so check the rubber band to make sure it has not broke or streched.

Disc Tray Problem

That is how the X-Box works. It doesn't stay open, because if it stood open and it accidently dropped or anything, the drawer would break, and that would cause alot of problems with Microsoft. Thanks for using Fixya!

Try cleaning the laser lens with a q-tip and a dab of isopropal alcohol. Still not working? Try resetting the system.
