Power button

Yes, we have this 27'' Sharp tv just recently given to us and the power button is knocked out to where the only thing seen is a hole. I tried tinkering with it and got in there an pressed down on a little square silver piece with a black button on top of it in an attempt to turn on the tv, since that is the way inside there to be able to turn the tv on without the actual button on the outside. I have gotten no response: the tv will NOT turn on at all! And since i'm not a big electronics repair kind of person, i don't know what to do. Is the tube out, is the tv dead, or is there something i can still do for it to be able to work right?
