If the laptop has a vent on the bottom of the laptop then you may be able to remove this panel to get access to the heatsink and fan.
If the vents are on the back or on the side of the laptop then to get access to the fan and heatsink you need to remove the keyboard.
You may be able to get a copy of a manual from the Acer WEB site.

I've had my bt200 system for about 4years. It's an awesome product. But now it seems to overheat and shut down when in use. It varies from 5mins to it will work for 3hrs w/o intended. How can I fix this?...

Since you are comfortable taking it apart, check the heat paste between the CPU and the heatsink. It most likely needs to be cleaned and reapplied.

My averatec computer makes a whirring sound

That sounds as if the cooling fan is working very hard. This normally means that the cooling ducts are full of dust and other rubbish. You may be able suck most out with a vacuum cleaner or blast with an air duster. Failing that, it's taking it apart (you will need a manual) to clean the heat sink area around the cpu.

It looks like pledge dust cleaner got into my screen

I doubt the model listed will sit on a shelf--but if it does the model listed has at least 2 and maybe 3 screens--outer one is clear (anti-glare and protector screen) .

If something got between the screens it is going to require entire front screen with the frame be removed and screens taken apart--lots of pitfalls doing that--

If it is that model listed here let me know--I know a site with full service manuals for most of these sets for free--show exploded views and how to take screen out and apart.

My acer aspire turns itself of after about 30min of using

Usually,, something like this is caused by a heat problem.
Things that usually heat up in the laptop are:
- the CPU (check the fan, may have to take apart to really clean)
- the Video Card (this may have a fan but usually a heat-sink, also may be dirty and full of dust)
- the RAM (usually nothing much to do here)
- the Hard Drive (this may be the problem but check other things first)

I would check the following forum as they describe how to take it apart for cleaning and also refer to a "build up" of dust in this laptop model.
http://www.avforums.com/forums/laptops-netbooks-tablets/1057228-acer-aspire-7720-turns-off.html

Another thing would be to check the BIOS version and also check at what levels the alerts and actions are set.

Also, when using a laptop - do not cover the fan vents which may be underneath.

Good luck

Taking apart MX6920 for cleaning

Im uploading you a service manual for a gateway 600 notebook. Your laptop is similiar not the same model, but if your smart enought the manual will help you thought the process.

It covers the basics of takeing a laptop apart and puting it back together the same way.

you will most likely have to remove the keyboard, and the top cover of the laptop, don't force or rush anything.

http://ekse.x10hosting.com/Support/

Ones you take one laptop apart, you can take any laptop apart.
They are all very similiar.

If you need anything let me know.

Wont heat

the sensor may need to be reset. My felt filter had come off but the dryer worked fine until everything filled with lint. Much of the lint was in places you can't get to easily and Fisher Pykel doesn't mention cleaning these areas in their manuals. I know it is to late to help you but it may help someone in the future.
