Question about HP Printers & Copiers

10 Answers

Our photosmart C3100 all-in-one printer is not working. The light keeps flashing all the time; except when we unplug it. No other lights are on; as Copy settings, Scan, etc. We've checked for a paper jam, and the cartridges seem to be in place. any suggestions?

After pressing the flashing button and holding it for one minute, it is still flashing and not printing.

After I got to Printhood,I can't find where "startup time is automatic or not"

  • mdharts Oct 30, 2008

Got two new ink cartridges---flashing yellow light stopped, but still doesn't print. Red light flashing, but no paper jam. Paper doesn't go through; cartridges don't slide back and forth.

  • mdharts Oct 30, 2008

    Replaced cartridges to no avail.
It was my understanding that if you couldn't come up with a solution, my money would be refunded.

That place was very helpful, but the printer is still not printing.

  • mdharts Oct 30, 2008

I've been hitting the printer on all sides, to no avail. Will the sensor get the cartridges moving from one side to the other?

Accept it or not, your printer is having a hardware failure and the only solution is having it SERVICED.

The printer is now incapable of detecting any cartridge installed and even HP Technical Support cannot fix that. This type of issue is common to all inkjets regardless of brand/manufacturer.

You have been provided with several troubleshooting suggestions that some are not available from your user-manual and came from the Experts experience.

The exact problem in your printer is -----there is a sensor in your printer which moves down when the paper passes through it when you give a print command.
and now the case in your printer is that paper sensor which detects the paper is either broken or moved from its orignal position.so it is continuously showing paper jam .with out any paper jam in the printer.
solution for this problem is that.
you have to check out that sensor in your printer if its broken you have to call a technician to get it replaced as it will not cost you more then $5 plus the engineers service charge.
and if the paper sensor is just moved from its position then just tap you printer slowly from all the sides with your hand for some time.as if something is blocking the paper sensor to come up at its orignal position tapping will release the sensor and it will come to its exact position.
as there is no such photo of sensor with me so i cannot give you the exact shape.
but it is made up of thin delicate plastic and it is mostly black in colour.

if the solution helped you rate the solution.
or feel free for further assistance.
thanks.

Clear any paper or carriage path obstructions Right-click the link below to open a new browser window with specific instructions about how to clear paper jams. When you have completed paper jam removal instructions, return to this point in these instructions to continue resolving a carriage stall.

With the product turned on, open the print cartridge access door. The print carriage might try to move into the access area. If so, allow it to move to that position.
Without turning off the product, unplug the power cord from the back of the product. Unplug the power cord from the power source.

The power cord must be unplugged to allow the parts to be moved by hand and to reset the paper feed mechanism, without the risk of an electrical shock.
Looking in through either the print cartridge access door or the output paper tray, make sure the print cartridges are locked into the carriage and have not come loose. Also, make sure that there are no obstructions under or around the carriage to block it from moving.

Make sure the print carriage can move freely across the width of the product by gently pushing the carriage to the left and then to the right. Clear any obstructions found. You may have to reach through the output paper tray to access the print carriage.
Close the print cartridge access door and plug the power cord back to the back of the product. Plug the power cord into the power source.

Press the On button to turn on the product.
Plug the product directly into a wall outlet Follow these steps to make sure that the product is correctly connected to a suitable power source.

Make sure that the computer and the HP All-in-One both have a three-prong power plug.
Remove the power cord from any power strips or surge suppressors, and plug it directly into a grounded wall outlet.
Perform a partial reset A partial reset will return user settings to factory defaults. On some models, language and country/region settings are also reset. Perform a partial reset of the product by following the instructions below.
Unplug the power cord from the unit.

Reconnect the power cord into the unit.
When the lights begin to flash, press and hold the On/Resume and Paper Size buttons.
When only the On/Resume light is flashing, release the buttons. When the On/Resume light is steady, the reset is complete.

Try the print job again to see if this step resolved the issue.
If the issue is resolved , you do not need to continue with the rest of the instructions on this page.
If the issue is not resolved , continue to the next step.

Remove and re-install the print cartridges Improper placement or installation of the product's print cartridges can cause the product to indicate a carriage stall error condition. Ensure correct installation of the print cartridges by following the instructions below.
With the printer plugged in and turned on, open the cartridge access door (see the illustration). After a moment, the print carriage should come to the center. The print cartridge carriage is the plastic part that holds the print cartridges. When the carriage is at the center of the access area, unplug the printer.

Remove the cartridges from the carriage and check them for damage. Check for obstructions under and around the carriage. Replace any damaged cartridges.
    Reinstall the print cartridges.
The black or photo cartridge goes on the right.
The tri-color cartridge goes on the left.
Close the cartridge access door, plug the printer back in and turn it on.
Try the print job again to see if this step resolved the issue.
If the issue is resolved , you do not need to continue with the rest of the instructions on this page.
If the issue is not resolved , continue to the next step.

Service the printer If you have completed all the steps listed above and are still experiencing a problem, service the product.

on your desktop, on the bottom right tray, there may be a small printer icon. right click on that, and open the print jobs menu, and see if you have a few in the print queue. If so, cancel them, from the bottom up, and that may make the flashing light disappear. then restart your computer, and see how that goes..

Go to Start--> Run--> Type-->services.msc ,, then right-click Print Spooler, and then click Properties. Make sure that the startup type is set to Automatic. If it is not, click Automatic in the Startup type list, and then click Apply.
And also check out for the Printer properties if any spooling page taking more time.

The printer might have pending instructions. Try to long press the flashing button. You can also open the printer manager and check if there are pending instructions or errors on the printer.

Try turning it off then. The flashing means that there is an instruction sent to the printer. Try printing a test page.

All the lights keep flashing --won't print!

I removed the black ink cartridge that was REFILLED at a popular retail outfit and replaced it with a remanufactured one I bought on the web. As soon as I closed the lid, the flashing stopped and it has been working GREAT ever since. Many postings had already recommended the changing to a "new cartridge" to remedy this flashing lights and "pen failure."
