In most cases is the screen is covered with vertical lines all the way accross the screen then the T-Con module is at fault. The t-con board is replaceable without having to replace the entire LCD panel which would usually make it cheaper than replacing the TV. The part number I come up with is 1-857-213-11. I had a kdl46xbr2 go out on me repair company said screen went bad and they told me warranty dept would not fix it cause the screen ran 2800. So now im in dis with them for a replacment tv and they wanna give me the xbr9 i want the xbr8. Theres a reason i spent 3500 on the xbr2 the bravia pro engine is in a nother class than the standard bravia.

5X Blink - TCON & HFR Failure
The 5X blink protection mode indicates a communications error between the TCON/HFR board and the MT5388 microprocessor on the A-Board.
First replace the TCON/HFR Board if the 5X protection mode blink pattern occurs. If the TCON/HFR Board does not repair the problem then replace the A-Board.

Back - light problem. Damaged CCFL lamp/s. Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis.

To some model sets; especially LED back-lighted types; the back-light inverter circuit will be part of the main power supply board [SMPS]. In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement. To some models sets, the back-light inverter and SMPS section circuit will be integrated at its main board itself. If so; the main board should be replaced.

If the screen is scratched it will need to be replaced, so yes it can be fixed but it will be expensive. If you have nothing to lose you could try reducing the effect of the scratches by polishing across them gently with fine jewellers rouge, try a corner first as it might completely ruin the screen. Not too much pressure as you will damage screen further

The T'Con board of your Sony TV is faulty. It should be replaced with same type and number. This baord can be located on the top back side of the LCD panel, and you have to open your TV to access it. There are two types of baords comes fitted with this KDL-EX models. Pictures of both are given here. You must have knoledge in elctroncis to replace this board. Actually this is a semi-skilled work. If you want its service manual, which has all the details about the repair work, you have to buy one amoung my Sony KDL services, advertised on new Fixya site.

Hi,
Basically it is problem of lcd panel (screen) but some times T-Con board (it is also part of lcd panel) replacement fix the issue.
T-Con board is located top center of lcd panel at back and need to take off back cover of tv to see it, this board would be covered under metal shield.
Expertise are required to replace this board and novice can damage lcd panel (screen) permanently.

Your pannel has damage by the hit, the only way is to replace the pannel. It is costly if you are in OOW. If it is still in warranty, call service right away and claim for an replacement.
