Question about SanDisk 2GB Cruzer Micro SDCZ62048A10 Hard Drive
So the first time I hooked this into my laptop, it installed the drivers, and U3 popped up. After using it a few times and putting nearly 200 pictures of my newborn son on it, I put it in one day and a box popped up saying that it failed to launch and may be corrupted. A friend told me to freeze it and try again....that was probably stupid in hindsight...anyway I stuck it back in my computer after freezing and the computer said new hardware detected, new hardware installed, your cruzer is ready for use. The little icon shows up on the bar and everything. But if you go into my computer to open it, or try to put something onto it, it says please insert hardware into drive F....It also says that it takes up two drives (has always said this) even though its only plugged into one port. Any help would be greatly appreciated it, this is my first kid and two months of his life are now missing from my photo album.
A friend told you to "freeze" it? You mean you put it in the freezer in your kitchen? You got to be kidding me..... Well I hate to break it to you but once started out as just needing your thumb drive to be reformatted you have now successfully ruined it. Just to be sure goto another computer and see if it does the same thing. I would be willing to bet that in freezing generated a crack in a connection on the inside of the thumb drive.
I have had a thumb drive go through the washer and everything was ok, but freezing has extreme temperatures that I don't think they were designed to endure.
What are the lessons we have learned today? Don't have all of your eggs in one basket as the saying goes. You should always have redundancy in data files (multiple copies located on various media) and don't stick electronics in the *&#@!$&% freezer.
Next time don't get a thumb drive that has U3 on it....

Go find "testdisk-6.10". See if you can rebuild the FAT32 or recover. It takes some time but is worth a shot. Worked for me, but then again I didn't stick it in the freezer.
