Manuals Library (manualslib) is the best site for manuals by a country mile. I just opened this one in less than a second. the website www.manuals.is has it, but it is not a good viewing format.
Take your bobbin to the fabric store. They can help you find the right one. Most Singer machines only use 1 of 2 designs. It is either TOTALLY flat, or only slightly curved. I think the #s are 515 or 55, or something very similar like that. I bought the wrong ones once and had opened the package and lost my receipt before I got back to the store so I just left them to donate them to their sewing classes for beginners. Good luck
try changing the needle--flat side goes to the back of machine rethread the machine top & bobbin--make sure to use every thread guide make sure bobbin is wound correctly & inserted correctly in the bobbin case clean under the needle plate & in the bobbin area for lint or loose threads if you don't have a manual try singer Go to the singer website
Click on customer support--there will be a drop down menu

If you go to your local jo-ann's or hancock, they generally have a technition who comes in once a week our so to fix machines. A tune-up will generally run between $60-100, and thay should help your above mentioned problem, as well as keep everything else in tio-top shape. If there were, by slim chance, to be any additional costs associated with such a repair, the repair person will tell you ahead of time. Congrats on your new purchase!
It sounds as though maybe the bobbin thread is not "clicked" into the tension slot correctly. You need to be sure it goes into the slot and you can hear/feel it seat itself in there. As a last resort, you can tighten the bobbin tension. Take the bobbin case out. On the side there is a recessed screw. If you think of it as a clock, turn the screw in no greater than 5 minute increments - to the right to tighten, to the left to loosen.
Is your machine sewing regular stitching (i.e. not embroidery, hoop off) okay or is the bobbin thread not right for that either? Next time you have your machine serviced, be sure to take in your embroidery unit too so the technician can set it up to be good for both ordinary sewing and for embroidery. I actually have a second bobbin case that I adjust if necessary for whatever project I'm working on that needs anything other than "default" setting for the bobbin. Thay way, I'm not messing about with the bobbin that has been set correctly by the technician but you can easily adjust your bobbin if it needs it. Just remember to put it back to "normal" when you are done.
There's nothing wrong with the newer plastic sewing machines. Most of them are plastic now and not as heavy as the old metal ones. You said that the needle moved smoothly but what you need to know is if the needle thread picks up the bobbin thread. If you don't know how to thread the machine either check the manual or ask someone in the shop to thread it. If anyone there sews, they will know how to thread it. If the machine makes a stitch go ahead and get it. It the bobbin thread is not picked up by the needle thread IT WON'T STITCH and then you'll know that the timing is off. That's a repair job and will be way more than what you paid in the thrift shop.
Hello Sara,
Sounds like there is thread jammed in the bobbin case area, take out the bobbin and bobbin case and make sure it is clean, also make sure the stop motion on the machine is tight, turn the balance wheel backwards if you can that should free off any jammed thread.
