SOURCE: how do i thread my needle with the singer handy

  1. Loosen needle screw & insert needle with shank's flat side facing front of machine. Push needle in all the way, then tighten screw to hold needle in place.
  2. Install a fully wound bobbin by loosening bobbin nut & placing bobbin on top. Re-attach bobbin nut & tighten. If standard thread spool will be used, then attach spool pin to bobbin shaft & place thread spool onto shaft. Attach white spool cap on end of thread spool, then tighten. Bobbin/spool should unwind facing forward toward needle.
  3. Bring end of thread through thread guides & over tension control. Pass end of thread through needle eye, from back to front, & pull it out about two inches.
  4. A spring pushes pressor foot onto fabric that is being sewn, so lift pressor foot & place fabric underneath.
  5. Turn large handwheel on side of machine (handwheel can be turned in either direction) to raise needle arm to its highest position.
  6. Holding the Handy Stitch in place with your right hand, press on power switch & begin sewing. Guide fabric (being sewn) with your left hand.
  7. To end this sewing session, turn off power. Turn handwheel to raise needle to its highest position. Carefully pull out about three inches of thread through needle & snip, then lift pressor foot to remove fabric. Turn fabric over & loop needle threader through last stitch. Place end of thread from underside through eye of needle threader, & pull to loop through. Pull to tighten and snip end of thread.

What is the difference in the length of the needle on a "handy stitch" as opposed to the "stitch sew quick machine?

Check your manual for the "System" of needle
a normal sewing machine needle has a "System" or dimension
called 15x1 or 705 H. That indicates the length, the circumference
etc. If the needle you received with the machine is the same length as the above system then you should be ok. Also most often the needle package for most machines will be labeled "Universal"

My wife broke several needles on her Juki DDL 555 machine and I need to know how to adjust the timing as she put a new needle in and the point was damaged

First thing to check is if you've got the right needle system: http://partsbooks.sewingmachine.com/Instructions/Juki/Industrial/DDL-5550%20&%205530%20Instruction%20Manual.pdf and that the needle is correctly oriented... the scarf has to be precisely set.
The next things I'd check are the stitch cycle -- hand crank the machine through the normal stitch cycle and see what's hitting. Then fix that. I've got my suspicions this may be a needle bar height adjustment. Don't thread up for this test... misthreading can also cause the needle to hit something and break, so start with the fewest possible variables first.

Bobbin thread is tangling around bobbin carriage as I sew. So I can only go a few stitches before the machine stops sewing and it's tangled.

Hello

This is Really not that big a problem. Simply pull out the bobbin thread with a long lead, put the assembled bobbin into the sewingmachine and take that long thread and close it between the sliding door and the machine itself to hold it temporarly.

Most sewing machine problems are caused by the usasge of wrong thread type. Make sure you have a thread that is for a sewing machine use, that is, good strong stuff, not hand needle basting thread as that will cause much problems.

Often the bobbin is thought to be the problem, those things are almost never the problem. A source of problems also is the usage of wrong or improperly machined flat on the needle itself. Be sure to buy a quality needle as that flat on there, if machined not deep enough will not allow the bobbin to pick up the thread, wind it around and form the stitch.

First, try making sure the needle is in the correct way, second you have the needle threaded from the correct side.
I am sorry to inform you that these type of machines are nothing more than a toy. As the old saying goes, "you only get what you pay for"
