Display & lights go out after use when door is opened, can uplug unit, then plug back in and display & lights work again until next use

When unit is finished, the display and lights all go out like a power failure. You can unplug unit, the plug in again and all works until the next time it is used.

My microwave wont heat up but runs normal

The make & model number would be helpful. There are alot of veriables that might cause this to occur. How long was the MW in use (the unit might have been to hot and the safety engaged) keeping the fan on to cool it down. There could be an issue with with one of the door interlock switches. Depending on the engineering, the control board could have had a hickup via a over current & shut down to protect itself. During the cut out was the cavity light on when the door was open. was the display blank. If you unplugged the unit waited a minute & then plugged it back in, did it operate again. It is not a good idea to open the control panel up, if your do not understand how to do basic electrical troubleshooting.

GE SPACEMAKER XL1800 IS NOT HEATING FOOD - GIVING "SENSOR ERROR" ON DISPLAY. I am a handy guy capapble of fixing if you can help me out w/the part I need

hello,

if you have a sensor, it means, the door was opened before steam could be detected. Do not open the door until stream is sensed and time is shown counting down on the display.

Steam was not detected in the maximum amount of time. Use Time Cook to heat for more time. The first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

thanks.

Ge microwave stopped working and gave a sensor error message. Any ideas

On GE models, "SENSOR ERROR" appears on the display when:
  • Using the sensor feature, the door was opened before steam could be detected. Do not open the door until stream is sensed and time is shown counting down on the display.
  • Steam was not detected in the maximum amount of time. Use Time Cook to heat for more time.
  • The humidity sensor (gas sensor) has failed.
Maybe the controller is "scrambled" and a hard reset will fix it.

Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

If that doesn't work, leave it unplugged for about 5 minutes.

There should be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, & testing.

I replaced the light bulb, now it displays -F6- and pushing any button causes a humming noise.

I left the unit unplugged over night, plugged it back in the next day and still had the same problem.

If that doesn't work, leave it unplugged for maybe an hour. Then let us know if the hard reset does not fix it.

It may be a problem with a door switch or door switch mount.

If the reset didn't fix it:

When you hit Start to cook, do the inside light and turntable come on?

Any unusual noises?

Is it louder or quieter than usual?

Do you have the model number?

These answers will help me judge whether it's in the high voltage section (magnetron, transformer, or diode) or the control section (door switch or control board relay or connection).

Numbers and light, but no power

It sounds like you have a bad control unit (the circuit board). We repair controllers nationwide for $39.995 in most cases, but if a part is needed which we cannot get, then it will need a new board. That can be ordered from http://www.vancebaldwin.com If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety and disassembly info at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

Maytag Over the Range Microwave

Assuming the entire power line from the breaker to the microwave cord is okay, it's almost certainly a bad connection on the circuit board of the control panel assembly. For reference, we repair these from all over the country for $32.50 postpaid.
