Hi,

I doubt if it is the kill switch. If it is, then there should be no spark at the plugs. Initially, pls remove again the spark plug and try to start the motor. The idea is to dry out the combustion chamber in case for some reason it has flooded. Pls do this (starting without the plug) a couple of times. Thereafter, leave it alone for about half an hour. On you next try, with the kill switch OFF, try to cover the sparkplug hole with a finger and crank the engine, if there is compression, the pressure will pop out your finger. if gas is coming inside the combustion chamber, you would know by your fingertip. If there is compression and gas is coming in, replace the sparkplug. Turn on and start.

Hope that this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Maybe the thermal sensor in the engine is overheated..it is inthere to keep the engine from frying.

Have a poulan wild thing and the oil bar compartment has gas in it

I would drain the oil and gas or whatever is in it. I would also drain the 2 cycle mix from the gas tank and start with a fresh gas and oil mix and fresh bar oil. The mix for the Poulan Wildthing is a 40:1 mix.

You are definitely going to smell gas when using any chain saw.

My Poulan 18in 40 cc WildThing ChainSaw Won't Start.

Start with basic tests, drain the fuel tank and fill with fresh fuel oil mix, remove and reolace the fuel filter on the edn of the fuel hose, check the fuel hose up to the carb for leaks, remove the spark plug, rest it on the side of the cylinder ( away from the plug hole ) cramk the engine and check if you have a spark.

The spark plug is firing and is getting gas but won't start

It sounds like you have low compression in the engine. I would check the compression it should be 100 psi.

Poulan 18" Wild Thing Chainsaw. replaced bulb,

Ok lets get the pipes conecterd correctly to start with, the hose comeing from the tank with the filter on the end, connects to the carb fuel inlet nozzel ( the nozzel neares to the pump cover held with one screw ) the pipe coming from the other nozzel on the carb goes to the short nozzel on the primer ( suction ) then the pipe from the longest nozzel on the ptimer goes back to the tank, once you have this correct, try the saw again. Change the filter in the tank, the carb screws will have some type of anti tamper device, this is why you only have a small amount of adjustment, you may need to remove these to adjust the carb properly, if there are any splits or cracks in the fuel lines the saw will not run properly.

Generally, these saws are set at the factory and aren't supposed to be adjusted. If you can remember how far you turned each screw I would suggest you turn it back to where it was. Turning the screws clockwise leans out the mixture and although it would seem to make it run better warm, it is too lean to start properly. If the engine doesn't start at the factory setting you probably need to take the carb apart and clean it and put a new kit in it.
