SOURCE: looking for the serial number on my Singer Fashion

Lay machine back (away from you) outside the box. On the underneath of the machine itself is a metal plate facing you with the number. The plate will be in the center and is easy to read.

SOURCE: I have a Singer 6233 and the drop in bobbin is too

I went online and found a diagram that showed where the screw was to loosen or tighten the drop in bobbin thread (it faces the front) but it couldn't be seen until I slid the sliding door totally off. I had to use a flashlight and very small screwdriver and was able to loosen the screw a tiny bit and it solved my problem. I've been sewing for over 40 years and didn't know how to adjust the tension on a drop in bobbin until now. You learn something new everyday!

The balance stitch control on this model is below the stitch patterns; to the far right.

If you need a manual you can download a free one at the Singer Company website.

SOURCE: how do I reverse stitch on a singer 362 fashion

The large knob in the center of the stitch length dial is a button, push it in to reverse stitch. Hold in as long as you need to reverse stitch, then release to resume regular stitching.

The tension. I have an old Fashion Mate Sig-Sag singer Model 257. Have used this machine since I was a teen, but have had tension issue since I oiled the machine with Fray stop instead of oil!!! ...

You may have to email me for further help but I will explain the best I can, turn the tension dial down to 4, push the numbered part of the dial in so it is free from the chrome nut, turn the chrome nut about three holes to the right and test sew, if the tension is still a bit dodgy do the same again, the tension unit itself will never need changing it will last forever, make sure you can only just pull the bobbin thread through with slight resistence, if it is too tight loosen the large screw on the bobbin case anti clockwise about a quarter of a turn at a time and test each time

My singer model 237 makes a stitch that doesn't look right. The bottom thread is just goes through the top thread loops under the material

Hi, if stitches are off, there is a problem with balance between the upper and lower stitch adjustments. You have to tweak these. Also, make sure there is no lint in the bobbin case area or under the feeddogs. Here is an excellent blog for 237 Fashion Mate owners. You are lucky to have one of these from the 1960's. http://blog.sew-classic.com/2010/02/02/singer-237-fashion-mate-sewing-machine-reveiw.aspx
