Question about GE Refrigerators
GE side by side stainless steel fridge is dispensing water but I haven't heard the icemaker working. Is there a trick that I am missing here?
Yes you most likely have a defective dual water control valve. Look around the inside of the refrigerator for a model number.
Click here=> For most locationsSide-By-Side
Once you find the model number I will be able to tell you what part number the dual dual water control valve is or if your ice maker assist you in testing ice maker. If ice Maker is empty try filling with tap water to top edges of ice maker, allow water to freeze and if the ice drops into the ice bin but does not refill with water automatically I would say that the dual water control valve will need replaced. If your ice maker has old shrinking ice from a few days ago it will point to an ice maker problem.
Thanks, Sea Breeze

SOURCE: water dispenser in fridge
Possible problems could a bad water valve (dual valve), bad micro switch which is activated by pressing the button for water to come out. On some models the bracket that holds the micro switch could be broken not allowing the button to activate.

Make sure there is no obstructions from the time the ice leaves the chute until it drops into the glass. make sure the motor that moves ice and out to the area for the cup is stuck or seized up let us know thanks

If the water is visible in the front, more than likely the hose has become disconnected from the door, if you look at the lower left hand corner you should see the hose come from underneath the machine and attach to the door via a plastic quick connect, it is just a push lock connection. You may have to pull of the toe kick and the left hand end cap depending on the model to see this.

SOURCE: water dispenser is not working
have two points where you can check the dispenser water. At the rear where the
water supply comes in is the water inlet valve. If you disconnect the dispenser
water line and then if the water comes out when you try the dispenser. You
should hear the valve work when you try the dispenser. If you don’t hear it
there is a dispenser actuator switch problem.
If you do hear it but water
doesn’t work here there is a valve or water supply problem. If it's normal, disconnect it at the bottom of
the freezer door and try again. If it's normal here it may be frozen in the
door. If this is the case open the door till it thaws. A blanket over the
opening will prevent thawing of all the food.
