Problem for Siemens SpeedStream Modem (4100) (SS4100)

SS4100 modem moved to another computer, Internet LED light not on

My brother had the SS4100 modem on his computer and it was given to me to use on my computer since he left. I've connected it directly to the computer (instead of on the router) to check for connection. All of the LED lights come on except for the internet LED. I can't even get onto the ip address 192.168.0.1. I've tried multiple things and even tried it on my laptop and still nothing... can someone help me!

- I found out what to do. it seemed to work after I tried frcs68's solution and clicking on "set up a home or small office network" under My Network Places. Then I was able to at least access the IPS... but then the PPPoe and authentication failed, so I had to log in and it finally gave me access to the internet. As for the router I had to completely reset it to it's default settings (since it was setup for MAC filtering) luckily the back of the router had the username and password.

turn off the PC and the modem. connected the modem to your IPS (Internet Provider). using a ethernet cable in the port marked WAN. connected another CAT5 cable from any of LAN port to your PC. turn on the modem first then your PC. waite for the PC to boot up. You should have Internet access. unless you Internet Provider need to configure them modem.(dependend on who is your Internet Privider).

- correction: connect the modem to your ISP via Cable Port. connect a CAT5 cable from WAN to a router WAN port, if you are using a router. of not then just use the LAN port on the modem to your PC.
