unless the head come to a halt during initialization process, upon turning on your printer there is no way you will be able to print, please check for any obstruction on the printer head, the grinding sound is an indicator that the head is trying to reach its position and was having trouble. or it could be a damaged belt that you need to replaced

First of all, sorry to hear it, I know how frustrating it can be!
Printers are typically DC powered devices and as such they are fairly tolerant to getting wet and will often work just fine, as long as you allow them to dry completely before trying to apply power and use the device again.
How long did you let the printer sit before trying to power it again?
If the device was not completely dry before plugging it in again, there is a strong chance it has be ruined beyond any simple repair.
How old is the printer?
If the printer is more than 2 years old, it is often easier to simply buy a new one. The printer you paid 200$ for 2 years ago will likely be a baseline model for $50~$100 now with the same quality.

Have you checked to see whether the sensors are not blocked by excessive paper dust? Do you know whether the printer is set to pull in a specific type or weight of paper?
Oftentimes, if you have printed on a heavy weight type of paper, or on a glossy type of paper for printing photos, when you next try to print, you forgot that the printer had been set for a different kind of paper ... one which requires the printers transport rollers to grab a heavier, or shinier type of paper, and now, when you try to print on regular paper, the printer;s rollers are simply not able to grab that kind of paper. so no matter of any types of paper or times they try to fix it, if they do not set it using the printer's 'properties' software button, they will not get it done right, and the printer will simply slip or slide but not grab the paper correctly.
Do it from within the printer's control panel and you will have a much better chance of having it work right.
Try that and see if it doesn't solve your problem.
