SOURCE: need wiring instructions for vbx12a

You will need the following:
A power wire (preferably 4 or 8 gauge) with an inline fuse (typically 50amps)
A battery terminal adapter to connect the power wire
A signal wire to let the amp know when the stereo is on
RCA audio cables to connect the amplifier to your stereo
A ground wire for the amplifier (again 4 or 8 gauge preferred)

Walmart sells a Scosche kit that has all of the wiring as well as a basic diagram for about $25, but it does not include the battery terminal adapter.

If you have a factory stereo you won't have RCA ouputs, so you will need a line level converter. A basic one like the Scosche SLC4 usually runs in the $20 range. You splice into your speaker wires and run them into the unit, then plug the RCAs into it.

SOURCE: amplifier turns on but not the subwoofer?

Hello thedj3214,

You can find the color codes for a 1999 Buick Regal here. There is no dedicated amp remote wire. Neither is there a power antenna wire.

You could use the 12V "switched lead (yellow) from the radio or any switched 12V lead directly from the vehicle fuse box. I'd wire it through a dash mounted toggle switch so as to be able to turn the amp on and off manually.

The Sony 2150GSX is a 2-channel amp with the speaker terminals on either side. You do not want to ground the subwoofer itself, only the ground terminal should be connected to bare metal on the vehicle chassis or body as close to the amp as possible. The ground wire does not need to be run to the negative battery terminal.

A ground on one of the speaker leads will probably cause the amp not to power up. A ground on a speaker wire usually activates the amps protection circuit, causing it to not operate until the fault is corrected.

Hope this helps.

How to connect an boss amplifier

Assuming you have an aftermarket radio. You must remove the radio so you can attache your RCA cables and the remote turn on. Run these down one side of the vehicle back to the amplifier. Run the power wire from the battery back down the other side of the vehicle to the amplifer (remember to place your fuse within 12 inches from the battery connection. You will need to find a grounding point. I recommend removing one of the side carpeted panels to do this. You will be able to find the frame. Make sure to sand around where you will be connecting the ground. Hook wires to the amp (RCA to correct color RCA wire inputs, Ground wire to (-), power wire to (+), and remote wire to it's screw terminal. The other end of the amplifier should have the speaker outputs for your subwoofer(s). Hope this helps. If you need more information visit www.mobileinformationlabs.com

THERE IS NO SIGNAL COMING FROM THE SUBWOOFER, IT IS CONNECTED TO A SONY AMPLIFIER IN THE SUBWOOFER JACK, AND CONNECTED TO THE SUBWOOFER IN THE LOW LEVEL INPUT. THE SUBWOOFER IS CONNECTED TO THE MAIN, AND...

With everything connected correctly there could be a couple of possible problems:

1. If your receiver has on screen display capabilities, you may need to turn the subwoofer output "on"
2. If your subwoofer has speaker wire inputs/outputs, you could run speaker wire to it, then to your speakers & test if the subwoofer is working... hence verifying that the receiver has a function to turn the subwoofer output on/off
3. The cable between the subwoofer & receiver could be bad. Try another cable.

Good luck!

It keeps turning off eventhough the back switch is turned on

You need to determine if its a malfunction of the sub or just due to a loss of input. And is it always in response to, say, over-enthusiastic use?

From the manual...

TROUBLESHOOTING

If you used the high-level (speaker) inputs and there is no sound from any of the

speakers:

• Check that receiver/amplifier is on and a source is playing.

• Check that powered subwoofer is plugged into an active electrical outlet and is switched on.

• Check all wires and connections between receiver/amplifier and speakers. Make sure all wires

are connected. Make sure none of the speaker wires are frayed, cut or punctured.

• Review proper operation of your receiver/amplifier.

If there is low (or no) bass output:

• Make sure the connections to the left and right "Speaker Inputs" have the correct polarity (+ and -).

• Make sure that the subwoofer is plugged into an active electrical outlet and switched on.

• Adjust the crossover point.

• Flip the Phase Control switch to the opposite position.

• If you are using a Dolby Digital/DTS receiver or processor, make sure that the

subwoofer adjustments on the receiver/processor are set up correctly.

• Slowly turn the Level Control clockwise until you begin to hear the desired amount of bass.

If you used the line-level inputs and there is no sound from the subwoofer:

• Check that receiver/amplifier is on and a source is playing.

• Check that powered subwoofer is plugged into an active electrical outlet and is switched on.

• Check all wires and connections between receiver/amplifier and subwoofer.

Make sure all wires are connected. Make sure none of the wires are frayed, cut or punctured.

• Review proper operation of your receiver/amplifier.

• Slowly turn the Level Control clockwise until you begin to hear the desired amount of bass.

• Make sure that you have configured your receiver/processor so that the subwoofer/LFE output is on.

I have a "12 kicker

If it is the amplifier that is shutting on and off:
Check to make sure the power and ground wires for the amp are secure, with no fraying, knicks or exposed wire. Check your fuses and connections to make sure everything is correct. Also look at the grounding location. be sure there is exposed metal around the grounding point (paint may cause intermittent power problems). Lastly, the amplifier's remote wire may be improperly secured to the wiring harness. Check the harness for exposed wire grounding out connections.
If the amplifier is continuously on, the subwoofer may be to blame. Check and double check wiring schematics to ensure correct ohms rating.

It comes on but no base sound and wont turn up

You have to fill in the details about what you're feeding it (the source and how IT's set up). It won't just >>create<< bass.

CAN I POWER UL15 AND XT115 [WITH CROSSOVER] WITH 1 AMP

You need 1 channel of amplifier per stack. Assuming the ul 15 is a full range box, and the XT115 is a subwoofer. But be careful with your Ohm ratings for the speakers and your power ratings of your amps. You want the proper Ohm load on the amplifier for maximum power. And use proper speaker cable, with correct wiring.

Wire the to the sub first, and then jump to the ul 15.

This one Wire should be for the +. Try connecting the + to the Head Unit and - to a Common Ground. At the Worst, You will Blow the Amp Fuse if not Correct. The Lead from the Head Unit is Only an Off and On from the Ignition. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!
