  • Anonymous Feb 16, 2009

    gets an error "audio drives not installed..."

  • Anonymous May 12, 2009

    We have the same problem. We cant get any sound from the Monitor spekers (NEC) but can get sound via skype keyboard. The computer says the drivers are not there but we know they are as we havent taken them out.

    Also as the computer has only two 256 MB = 512Mb we need to upgrade the memory as it takes a long time to upload.

    How may slots are there for the memory and what combination can we use?. The memory is 184 pin DDR3200 400 mhz ECC

    I have seen some say memory saying ecc and non ecc and buffited or non buffited. What the difference?.

Is the driver the right one? What operating system do you use?

Try disabling/re-enabling the device and/or reinstalling the driver.

Type your model number into the search box on this page:
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

Download the available audio drivers.

Hope this helps!

I had a hard drive problem, and had to reinstall Windows XP on a Asus K8V-MX.

I got all the drivers I needed from the asus.com website; except that the audio driver for my integrated audio (based on it being a SoundMax according to the Asus website) was not the right one

It turns out that my integrated audio is from RealTek.

I downloaded the driver which worked for me from RealTek: "AC'97 Audio Codecs (Software)".

This issue is discussed with further details at at the Asus website forum page..

All the best to you.

    As it turns out, my mother board is an ASUS K8V-MX/S as
    opposed to a K8V-MX; which I only realised after noticing
    a sticker on the motherboard between 2 of the pci card adapter plugi-ins.

    ..and the /s version of the mother board needs a RealTek audio driver.

    Re: RAM Memory for Asus K8V-MX/S

    This motherboard has 2 memory slots.

    Although I put two 1-GigaByte pc3200
    (1024MB each)
    modules into the computer; and although
    the computer does work as such;

    Both the BIOS and the XP Operating System
    report that only 512 MB of each memory module
    is actually being used.

1. first download this file:

audio.zip - Audio Driver for Win 7

2. right click on "Computer" and select properties. Open Device Manager.

3. Uninstall Soundmax.

4. Open that zip from step 1 and extract to a new folder on the desktop.

5. Run Setup.exe and complete.

6. Restart.

7. Once you are back you're sound icon will be missing from the tray and windows will reinstall the soundmax drivers.

I'm getting no sound through my speakers and getting code 28 in the error. I've checked the BIOS for the K8V-MX motherboard and it says the audio is enabled.

The error code you state suggests that the proper audio driver is not installed. You need to re-install the audio drivers.
Follow this link to download the audio drivers for your motherboard.

I've produced the link for the download, but firstly remove the audio driver and reboot before trying to reinstall the drivers. Make sure you have very little applications running in the background before trying this.

K8V-X SE Sound Card In xp 64 does not work!

Hi brian_stiver,
click on this Asus link for the K8V-X SE board;
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?modelname=K8V-X%20SE&SLanguage=en-us

You must click the dropdown menu & choose Windows XP!
Than click the Search Button.
DO NOT pick Windows 64bit from the list of operating systems.

Asus list audio driver support for Win64bit here;
SoundMax AD1980/AD1888 Audio Driver version 5.12.2.5280 for Windows 64bit XP/2003.
Download the file named; ad1980_1888_51225280_64bit.zip
Create a folder on your desktop & name it Audio. Save the *.zip file in to your Audio folder. When you uncompress the the *.zip file keep all uncompressed files within your Audio folder.
The reason for keeping all the files within the Audio folder is you may need to install the sound drivers through windows device manager if the audio setup.exe program fails.

Good luck!
Mike
