Have you checked the sound properties to see if anything is muted? Double Click the speaker icon in the lower right hand of the screen (near clock). This will bring up a slider. Make sure "Mute" box is not checked, and adjust slider upwards. If you cannot hear any sound still, you will have to reinstall the sound card driver or if that doesnt help, then you may have to install a new sound card.

Ok, Go to Control Panel > Sounds and Devices and adjust the volume level from there. Also make sure that you check the box marked "Place volume icon in taskbar" so that you can easily adjust the sound next time.

If you still have difficulty, then you will have to reinstall the driver.

does the device manager show the sound chip? it must or the HP drivers are missing, (some take more lower level chips working first)
(yah complex and in the correct order installed)
with no red or yellow marks, ? DM colors>
be on the internet , right click, that sound chip and click update driver? curing said driver errors?

my guess, is there are other HP drivers missing or wrong.
Get the HP recovery kit for this LT? reinstalled unstated windows?
it could be virus infected and if it is, you will never get it right,
unless fresh loaded .
If this is XP it is a virus magnet, for now and eternity..

see this tag, see that name and number here, what do you have.
this is a service tag seen on all hp gear.

I seem not to get sound after changing my operating system to xpservicepack2

Hi there,

Service Pack 2 may have corrupted the drivers for your sound card. But before you do that, go to Start > Control Panel > Sound, and under the Playback tab, make sure the proper speakers are set as your Default Device in here. If they're not, right-click the proper device and set it as Default.

If you don't see your Speakers listed in there, then you need to reinstall the Drivers. I can only provide you with general information on how to do this since you didn't include the make and model of your sound card.

To reinstall your sound card driver, you need to know what type of sound card you're using. You can check this out by going to Start > Control Panel > Device Manager. Your sound card will be listed under Sound, Video, and Game Controller. If this is listed as Unknown, then you may need to open up the Laptop and look at the sound card directly. (If it's built onto the Motherboard, that won't help you.)

In the event that your sound card is built onto the Motherboard, or once you know the make of your Sound Card, go to your Laptop Manufacturer's website. I'll show you how to do this from the perspective of an HP Laptop, but if you have anything like a Sony VAIO, Toshiba, LG (Etc.), you will either need to visit the correct manufacturer`s website, or respond with the make and model of your Laptop.

From the perspective of an HP
- Go to HP.com and click on Support & Drivers. - Click on Download Drivers and Software (and Firmware). - Type in the name of your Product. If you aren`t sure, you go to Start > Right-Click on Computer > Go to Properties. Your make and model will be listed in there. - This might bring up a list of a ton of Notebooks related to your search. Once you find the right one it will ask you to select your operating system. You`ll want to select Windows XP, then hit Next. - Click on Driver - Audio and Download the latest driver for your sound card.
If this doesn`t work you may need to download the Driver from the manufacturer`s site directly (ie. Creative, Intel, Realtek, Etc.)
Again, do not download your Drivers using the example I have provided. If you download HP drivers for a Toshiba Laptop, you are likely to wreck your computer. I am just providing you with an example of how to update your Drivers since you didn`t provide the make and model of your own. :)

My research on this one indicates that the motherboard is an Intel with a 945GM chipset.

You should find your drivers for sound at this link: Choose your os, then agree to the terms and you should be able to start the download..
