Question about Compaq Presario F572US Notebook PC

No power light around plug, but when I disconnect the AC module from the mobo, and then plug the module to the adapter, it lights up. Why?

I had a faulty AC adapter, so I bought a new on. A new battery too. Tried em and nothing. So I figure the mobo is shot. I get a new one and plug it in. Still nothing. From the title, you can see that the problem isn't the AC adapter or the AC module. What's the next step in the diagnosis? Be aware, I have it in barebones mode. Only essential hardware. -mobo(CPU, Heatsink, all that), power button module, ac module, a stik of RAM,

To clarify exactly what I mean,

Inside my computer, there is a chip(AC module) that the power cord(AC Adapter) plugs into and that chip has a cable that connects to the motherboard (MOBO). This little chip has a light on it that lights up when plugged in. In my case, the light will not light up IF I have it plugged into the mobo. When it is disconnected from the mobo, it lights up. That proves the problem isn't the AC adapter OR the AC module.
I'm hoping someone can give me an idea where the next problem is. I would think it's a fuse or safety trip that protects the mobo from overload, but needs to be reset. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?
Please don't respond if you don't understand what I'm talking about. If you don't, you can't possibly have an answer for me.

First is the correct power pack volts and amps and watts
first first first. my guess is 65watt min..(i dont know Compaq volts its too old)
then the Fan must come on or the POWER regs are shot.
a common ***** of mobo cause
why are you fiddling around old junk parts, there is no support for this zero value PC? its only worth $5 used and broken.
your diagnosis false.,sorry.
totally
in electronics if the voltage falls in the 2 lines from the pack.
lets say its a real HP with 19v as most are, (compaq?)
if you plug it in and the volts falls (use a thing called a volt meter and ignore useless LED that glow at 2v, see why?)
then if 19v is say 10vdc NOW, (hard fail that)

that is what? answer is 2 things.
1;bad pack (wrong pack ,weak pack or dead)
2;or the load is shorted,

facts. this is called electronics trouble shooting 101.
and OHMS laws are day 1 learning topics.

did you strip the mobo clean first. ?
there are 2 ways to do this start full and strip or start empty and build.

see this, see the parts pulled? its a complex Elitebook, one of the best made ever. not compaq relics.

http://pcdied.com/black-screen.html#BIOS

we remove all modules 1 by 1, and CPU GPU last.
keep an open mind, use a voltmeter,
the BIOS is dead if cpu is pulled sure. but will still hold power.

the sad thing is seeing folks use LED for a voltmeter.
sorry that is hopeless. (2volts is useless info(@^@)
a Voltmeter DMM is $20 at walmart. buy one and learn to use it.

the PC mobo has regulator on board,
mine converts 19vdc raw to like 5 other key power rails
I have a schematic of my mobo, (rare but have it)
i can probe the rails to see if the regulator is shutting down
they do that on all overloads, all do. (this feature prevents burned up regs. a good thing)

If lucky, one h part removed from the MOBO cures the overload.
we have load bank in our shop
we can load down any power pack made or PSU
and see if it can just full power.
many cant. do to old parts you are buying
or using wrong parts,
with no parts list ?how can you fix any pc,
the parts list tells you the true packs spec, volts,amps/watts.
never assume what it came with it was right , or get FAIL endless.

BTW HP still makes learning correct packs sizes hard.
mine has 4 packs listed, for each faster power hogging CPU and GPU but does not match them up in the service guide.
just shows them. so this can get hard.
In my case only the 100w works, mine max max speed.

SOURCE: C500 Laptop won't come on power button just flashes

Have you tried attaching an external monitor when the LCD screen is disconnected from the motherboard? this connector is located under the keyboard strip – a piece of plastic just above the keyboard.
If it works, this way, then the video cable isn’t seated properly in the connector on the back of the screen. Plugging the video cable back in should fix the problem.
I don’t know how comfortable you are with taking apart laptops but I think that this information could be useful for you.

Regarding your question you could try a power discharge for your device:
- disconnect the AC adapter
- unplug the battery (if detachable)
- press and hold down the power button for 30 seconds (to discharge the components)
- plug the AC adapter only (without the battery if it is detachable)
- turn on the unit

If the battery is not detachable, please follow the procedure with the battery attatched.

- turn off the unit
- disconnect the AC adapter

My magic jack plus will not work and I am wondering if the electrical connector is bad.

Go to the magic jack website and update your adapter. Also try different USB ports and reboot your computer with magic jack connected. If the computer does not recognize the adapter, try disconnectin and reconnecting into different ports. There is a update option on magic jack website and tech support as well.

Everex lm7w will not power on no lights

Are you using the right charger for that laptop?
a: if so them discard question
b: if not there are chances that you busted the mobo or that the charger doesn't have enough volts to power the machine.

other possible reasons the ac jack is bad, it happens occasionally even so is not that common, or you have a bad motherboard (mobo) if that is the case you will need to replace the mobo, good thing they can be bought for cheap at E-Bay's or Amazon.

I don't see other cause since there is only power on the ac adapter and not on the machine.

I got a compaq c36 it was working fine but now it wont switch on or anything do you now what it could be

1. Plug the laptop into AC power.

2. Take out the battery.

3. Try a different outlet.

4. Look for the light that indicates that the AC adapter is plugged in. If that light isn't on, try plugging and unplugging the AC power jack and moving it around until the light shows its connected. If no light comes on, its possible you have a bad DC jack or the AC adapter needs to be replaced.

5. If the indicator light is on and the laptop won't power on, then it's possible you have a bad switch board or stuck button. Make sure no buttons are stuck. Conversely, push hard on the power button and move it around in order to make sure you're making good contact.

6. If you know the battery has a charge, unplug the AC adapter and connect the battery. If it turns on, then you can be sure you have a bad DC jack or a bad AC adapter.

Its my sister's toshiba a205-s4577 it does not boot up at all. when i plug in the ac power, the blue plug light goes on, but when i press the power button, all the lights flash for a second and then...

Hello.

The most common reasons are the battery, power adapter/cord and power jack.

If you move/wiggle the power adapter at the point where it connects to the laptop, and the power goes off and on, the power jack is the problem.

The power jack is inside the laptop and either needs soldering or replacement.

If no change, the power adapter is probably faulty and needs replacement.

Also, power off and remove the battery. If the laptop powers on with just the adapter connected, your battery is faulty.

If you are knowledgeable, remove the heatsink and apply new thermal paste.

But, it certainly could be the mobo.

Hope this helps.

HP DV2036ea i have a blank screen on the computer

Hello there

Description.

When pressing the notebook power button nothing is displayed on the screen or display. The cause of this problem may be a failed AC adapter, the memory modules (RAM) need to be reseated or a failed notebook system board component which will require an HP certified repair.

Below steps will assist in identifying the cause of the problem and suggest the best solution. Test the AC adapter Follow the steps below to determine whether the problem is related to the AC adapter or your notebook system board.
  1. Remove the battery and disconnect all external devices from the computer.
  2. Hold the Power button for several seconds, with all power sources removed. This drains residual power from the system, and may correct many problems.
  3. Connect the AC adapter to a wall outlet and plug the other end into the computer.
  4. Press the Power button to start the notebook PC.
If the notebook does not start or the display is blank then check the power indicator light or power socket LED. Check the power indicator light or power socket LED On newer models of notebook PCs, there is an LED or indicator light around the power socket on the notebook. Check to see if this light is on or off, when the notebook is plugged into AC power. The power indicator light or power socket light should turn on when the AC adapter is connected.

  • If the light does not turn on then the problem is most likely related to the AC adapter or the electrical source in your home or office. Go to the Light does not turn on section on this page.
  • If the light does turn on but the notebook does not start or the there is a blank screen then continue to the Light does turn on but the notebook does not start section on this page

The light does not turn on when the AC adapter is connected If the power indicator LED is off, the AC power adapter may need to be replaced. To determine if the AC power adapter needs to be replaced follow the steps below:
  1. Ensure that the AC adapter is plugged directly into a known working wall outlet.
NOTE: To check the wall outlet, plug in a different known working device like a light, radio etc.
  2. Check all of the following connections:
    • The connection from the power cord to the wall outlet.
    • The connection into the power adapter from the power cord.
    • The connection from the AC adapter to the notebook power socket.
  3. Press the power button again to test the notebook PC.
If the power indicator light still does not turn on, then the AC Adapter needs to be replaced. Contact HP Service and Support for further assistance. Power socket LED or power indicator light is on but the notebook does not start If notebook power indicator light (LED) is on, the AC adapter is working correctly. The problem is a result of a hardware failure in the notebook itself. In some cases, reseating the memory module (RAM) may solve the problem.

Laptop won't power up dies in the middle of movie-won't power up

You would probably be better off buying a new notebook. Not sure how tecnologically advanced you are but it seems you already did the troubleshooting yourself. But i am very interested in the a/c adaptor output. If the led on the adaptor is green that just means that it is getting power from the wall.

What did you mean by fluid leaking out?

It could be the mobo (motherboard) or it could be the connections from the power to the machine. If you want to put a new mobo in I have to warn you that taking apart a laptop is VERY difficult and I do not recommend this unless you are a PRO. This is just about the only link i can find to buy a new board. If you google your laptop model you will find out you definately are not alone with this problem

****If notebook power indicator light (LED) is on, the AC adapter is working correctly***
If the power indicator LED is off, the AC power adapter may need to be replaced.
    • The connection from the AC adapter to the wall outlet.
    • The connection into the power adapter from the wall outlet.
    • The connection from the AC adapter to the notebook.
  3. Press the power button again to test the notebook PC.
  4. If the power indicator does not turn on, remove the AC power adapter from the notebook PC and re-insert the battery. Then press the power button. If the power indicator light still does not turn on, then the AC Adapter needs to be replaced.
*****Reseating the RAM may resolve this issue.****
Step 1 - Remove the battery
  1. Slide and hold the battery release latch to the unlock position.
  2. Use your finger to lift the battery up and out.
Step 2 - Remove the memory module
  1. Locate the memory module cover on the bottom of the notebook.
  2. Remove the screw that covers the memory module.
  3. Use your finger or a flat head screw driver to lift the inside edge of the memory module and remove it.
  4. Push both tabs outward simultaneously to release the memory module.
  5. Grasp the memory module by the edges and pull gently to remove it.
  6. After removing one module, replace the memory expansion cover and then replace the screw.
Step 3 - Replace the battery
  1. Insert the battery into the notebook.
  2. Push the battery into the base enclosure until you hear a click.
  3. Connect the AC adapter and turn on the notebook.
fter the memory is reseated, connect the AC adapter and turn on the notebook. If the notebook boots normally and the Windows desktop appears no further action is needed. If this problem re-occurs often, contact an HP Support Specialist to schedule a repair.

My Asus mobo P5ld2 cant turn on

Did you try to unplug all AC Power; remove internal surface battery; and then jumper the 'reset' pins from 1-2 to 2-3 ? Leave in this state for about 5 minutes- then replace battery; re-jumper back to pins 1-2- replace AC power cord. Sometimes wiping out the BIOS setup information and restarting/re-setting it up will do the trick!
