Question about MSI K7D-Master (MSIK7DMASTERDUALSOCKETA) Motherboard

Open Question

K7D Master I have tried using some SAMSUNG M312L2923CZ3-CB3 1Gb PC2700R-25331-C3 DDR modules that just won't get past the "BIOS ROM checksum error". (either together or single) The diagnostic LED setting is locked at the "Decompressing BIOS image to RAM for fast booting" display . . . I have tried the various manual memory settings such as 16-16-(5/6)-2-2-2-(2/3) and disabled al shadow of video and bios. So does anybody know what the problem could be? It will gladly boot with 2 x 1Gb unbuffered DDR 400 or 2 x 512 333 Mhz ECC Reg!!! My AWARD Bootlock BIOS is version 1.0 and running 2 xMP2600+ Much thanks in advance

SOURCE: cmos checksum error after flashing the bios

I had a similar experience after upgrading my RAM. When you reset your CMOS and have default settings maybe you should check if your RAM timings are correct. I could not get mine to load with both sticks in until I fixed the timings from the default settings.

SOURCE: PC Cannot Boot

"0x000000F4: CRITICAL_OBJECT_TERMINATION One of the many processes or threads crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited or been terminated. As a result, the system can no longer function. Specific causes are many, and often best resolved by a careful history of the problem and the circumstances of the error message" - so it doesnt say anything !

- check u;re harddisk for errors (i see that some people that had the same error, had hardrive issues.). It cand be the harddrive beacouse u're comp stops at the Detecting IDE drives ...

- try doing a BIOS update! To go into BIOS settings read the manual ... "del" doesn't work with all computers !!!

- but i susspect that u're problem is overheating components ! Probably the processor or the motherboard chipset ! Check to see if the processor gets hot ! (with software, or just keep u;re hand on the cooler and see if it gets hoter than it should ). Do the same for the chipset ! (chipsets run preaty high in temperature, so it;s ok to be hotter than the processor!).

SOURCE: Try to install 2gb PC2700/DDR333 memory on MS-6741 motherboard

Hey Luc,

I got a chance to check on that memory part number. Most of the sources that I ran across were outside of the USA (and there were very few of them). Was this memory purchased from an online vendor or over the counter at a brick and mortar store?

Here's the thing - I can't find any listings for this memory module on ebay which is odd because generally you can find anything by punching its part number into ebay and a lot of the time you get more detailed specs on the part thru ebay than you would thru a regular web search. I did determine that the specs you posted were pretty much right but I couldn't get any more advanced specs than what you provided.

You may want to source a diffrent module(s) for your unit using the specs I posted a link to before and going with the PC3200 mods. Just make sure you match the CL and voltage detailed for your machine.

I wish there was a better answer for you but if I can't verify the validity of the memory you're trying to use than I have to recommend going with a different module altogether.

Post back here with your progress on this, I'll be curious to see how it turns out.

You need to check that you don't have the same identifier for 2 IDE drives. you can only have one "Master" and one "Slave" on each IDE channel. If you have 2 of one the computer won't know what it is supposed to be doing with the drive.

Checked your RAM chips? Remove them and boot up and see if it will beep. If you have another DVD drive, swap it and try again. The board battery rarely goes, and only change it when it is not keeping the date/time etc, it won't help in outputting video.

Check the jumper settings in the back of the drive, by the power cable. Make sure your cd/dvd drive is set to SLAVE, with your primary harddrive as MASTER. Check BIOS settings, specifically your boot order, choose which drive you want to load first (usually HD 0), save and exit.
That's just the basics, though.
Another possibility is that you might just have a paperweight ;)
If so, try another drive.
Hope that helps

Dell Precision 530 with dual Xeon CPUs. Uses Rambus memory. (4) 256mb ECC modules are installed. It should be a total of 1 gb. However, BIOS only shows 256mb total even though it shows all 4 rambus...

It sounds like like you have multiple issues. When all memory slots are filled with 256 sticks the computer boots but only sees 256 MB instead of 1 gig.
When you install the Crimms it won't boot at all.
You may have an open circuit on one of the Crimms.
As for the computer seeing only 256 MB you may have a bad memory slot on the motherboard.
Here's a link regarding Direct Rambus DRAM or DRDRAM (sometimes just called Rambus DRAM or RDRAM: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RDRAM

Once you reset the bios everything goes to manufactures default settings. You will need to make some changes within the bios. You'll need the help of the manual. See page 3-20.
If your operating system is loaded on to the ATA IDE drive make sure you set bios settings as follows:
Connect the ATA IDE to MB primary master IDE port.
Connect the ATA SATA drive to the MB's first SATA port.

ATA Configuration
Set as, [P-ATA+S-ATA]
S-ATA Keep [Enabled] Set to [Yes] This enables the SATA controller.
P-ATA Keep [Enabled] Set to [Yes] This enables the IDE controller.
On-chip IDE configuration, "ATA Configuration = [P-ATA+S-ATA]".
Next go to Boot menu. Make sure the ATA IDE drive is chosen as boot device three.
First boot device [Floppy] (If you have a floppy disk drive connected.)
Second boot device would be [DVD/CD-ROM] drive. This should be connected to the MB's secondary IDE port & the DVD/CD-ROM drives Master/Slave jumper, set to Master.
Third boot device [ATA IDE drive]
If your boot drive is the SATA drive than set: third boot device to the SATA drive.
(Hard disk drive with operating system loaded on it).
Save your changes & exit the bios.
Keep in mind all ATA SATA drives are seen as Master drives. SATA drives are seen by the SATA controller & in order by their connection to the SATA port number.
Save & exit the bios. The system will auto restart. Windows should start.

Memory upgarade

Yes, it will work. Remember that all memory will operate at the speed of the slowest memory though so unless you're completely replacing the memory it won't increase the speed of the memory.

Sudden Reboot with K7D Master MS-6501

What condition is the heatsink and fan In??? It seems to me that the cpu is getting slightly hot and is shutting down to prevent any damage..

Is the motherboard newly installed if so check that it is situated correctly in the tower.

The newest version of the bios may cause the problem as well especially if you used a flash bios program.

It has nothing to do with the IRQ and how close it is situated to the cpu...

Monitors are also prone to this problem have you tried the system on another monitor..

Have you been into the bios and changed the settings for the display??

If the board sometimes may have issues with usb 2.0 and creative sound cards then that will not cause this problem..

Clean heatsink and fan or replace(use silicone on cpu) and check the mobo is correctly fitted and no shorts are occuring with the fitting screws.

Run all the virus control programs as well to make sure there is not a nasty worm working it,s way through the system..

Lastly and most probably the answer is to try or change the monitor..
