Cannot read or format compatible discs on DVR/Player, multiformat

Had my device from new(May 2006). The device has been working ok, until recently,-then, when I insert various compatible disks, it takes an age to "read" then flag says, "cannot read this disk-please check disk", or, if disc is "read", and i try to format it, "cannot format this disc". When dubbing is attempted (if i get that far) "cannot dub with this disc". Have tried all new and used discs, that caused no trouble before. Have cleaned with cleaner-disc & rest device,etc-all according to manual. Whats next! Have been unable to contact manufacturer (JVC) but enough said there! Help!!

SOURCE: LG RH265 - Problem when trying to register blank disk/dubbing

The DVD needs to initialise the disk first. Come out of the HDD dubbing menu and press DVD on the remote. The blank recordable disk should be recognised and you should see Initialise disk? on the screen. Press Start and hey presto, you can now dub from the HDD Movie dubbing menu (as per the manual instructions).

SOURCE: LG DVD/VCR Recorder Combo RC195 will not finalize DVD after dubbing

It seems that it won't finalise because the disc is full. If you stop before the "Disk is Full" warning at two hours you should be able finalise, but, the disk still won't be recognised. DVD+R seems to work OK.

Personally with LG, Life's NOT Good.

My dvd player ejects the cd when i load it

Either the reading head on the laser is dirty or bad and it is not recognizing the CD. If it is a homemade CD there might be a formatting problem that is not compatible with your player

Why do dvd players say no disc when there is one in it?

This can be caused by several different things. It may be the read head assembly needs to be cleaned, the disc cannot be recognized. Or it could be a disc format which the player does not work with. Check the owner's manual for compatible disc formats. the Disc may be damaged or needs to be cleaned. The disc may need to be finalized by the recorder it was recorded on if a recordable disc. This is not the case for DVD-video as these are stamped discs.

You can try a cleaning disc but it may not solve the problem.
Inspect and clean the disc and try again.
Having the disc head assembly cleaned may be the answer but the service cost could be more than just buying a new player.

After burning my DVD-R, I can not play it on my computor or any other DVD player. What am I doing wrong?

Did you finalize the disc? How you do this will depend on whether you are using your computer or a standalone DVR. On XP, I had to tell my burning software to finalize the disc after burning. On Windows 7, I find it will finalize the disc on eject (until I changed that setting). Finalizing the disc is an option under right clicking when I have a disc in the drive.

On a standalone DVR, you should find an option to finalize the disc in the menus that let you write a title to the disc.

Without finalization, other dvd players will not be able to read the disc. You also need to make sure that the disc is compatible with each player (+/- R is not universal).

I hope this helps.
