Question about Maytag EPIC MFW9700S Front Load Washer

Odors on the clothes after washing in Maytag front loader

We have done everything that both the customer service rep and the repairman recommened (extra hot water, bleach, baking soda, affresh, etc.)

We are so frustrated with our 10 month old washer. It may be energy efficent but we have used more water and especially hot water since purchasing it.

We tried washing the towels and there was no visable soap but we were using way too much Tide HE liquid and Downy liquid each time.

Will that correct the problem from now on?

  • tonikirby Oct 24, 2008

I've got the sanitary cycle going right now 155 minutes long with super hot water plus had included the affresh tablets.

I'll let you know how the next load turns out.

The brand of your front loader is not that material on this issue. What is happening is that your old top load washer may have used as much as 45 gallons of water per cycle, while some front loaders use as little as 12. Because of the low water use, you must cut back on the additives you are using. Use only 1 tablespoon of HE detergent (even less if 2x or 3x detergent) per load. If you use fabric softener, use only 1 teaspoon per load. Odor on clothes after wash is indicating that the detergent and or softener has not been fully rinsed out. If you throw a load of washed towels into your machine and start a cycle without any soap, then stop the cycle, you should not see any suds. If you do, there is obviously soap left in the clothes. With bath towels, the towels are used to absorb clean water off a clean body. They do not need soap when you wash them, and never use fabric softener on towels.

Thanks for Trying? Why shoot the messenger? If you want to rant, there are lots of other forums out there. I listed exactly what I have found has worked for me personally and in my professional experience. It may not work in your case, but it has for many.

If your washer has a assessable filter, clean that out first, and if it has a tub clean or sanitary cycle use that cycle (if not, use hottest longest cycle available) with 3 Affresh tablets or use whirlaway to clean out the washer outer tub (the not visible tub that holds the water). You might want to use another cycle like that with bleach to head off mold or mildew growth. Use of proper amount of detergent and fabric softener should really help the clothes odor issue from then on. Also check the tub seal at the bottom of the door area to clean out any lint from drain hole areas to help prevent water from remaining in the tub seal area.

I have the front load washing machine wm2010cw. The washer just has a foul odor and I can not seem to get rid of it. I have tried using Affresh and had a tech come to see what the problem was but all I got...

If you have a smelly front loading clothes washing machine, toss in a Finish Geltabs (the ones that are all liquid) and run the machine on a hot wash cycle, medium to heavy load (to get more water in the tub) with no clothes in the machine. You don't need to use much of a spin cycle so set it on low. The washing machine will come clean and even the moldy spots on the rubber gaskets will disappear. A second treatment may be needed if the smell is not completely gone. We tried everything from vineger to bleach to baking soda to borax to commercially available odor removers from Whirlpool and Tide. Nothing worked until I hit on this idea. It's cheap, easy and can be done anytime your machine needs a refreshing. I used the orange Geltabs but any fragrance would be fine. Keep the door on your washer open a bit when possible to air out to help preclude those nasty smells.

Dishwasher does not clean tea stains from teacups- we have tried a variety of soaps and have used sani-clean. Machine is only one month old- new fully integrated model.

Method #1

  • Wet a cloth then rub the inside of the mug with baking soda. If the stains are stubborn, soak overnight in hot water and baking soda.

Method #2

  • Soak the mug in bleach OR vinegar for several hours or overnight.

Method #3

  • Fill mug with boiling water, add two spoonfuls of dishwasher detergent then soak overnight.

Method #4

  • Try a paste of corn starch and vinegar, apply and let sit for a few minutes then scrub away.

Method #5

  • Drop two denture tablets in the mug, pour hot water over top then soak overnight.

After soaking mugs and removing the stains, rinse and wash very well before using-especially when using the bleach method.

How do i remove black mold on gasket

Hi
Try using bleach with hot water, run a cycle with hot water and bleach. Or spray bleach +water mixture on the seal. Run a cleaning cycle with hot water and bleach or vinegar at least once a month to reduce the growth of mold in other parts of the washer. You can also try using 1/2 a cup of Washing Soda or 4 cups of baking soda Crystals and run the machine with no clothes in it. This would remove all the debris, lint & mold growth from the drain pump and drain filter. This would clean the mold from the door seal as well.
Hope this helps... Please post back if you need more information.

I have sour mildew smell problem with my clothes

Look inside the door to the gray rubber ring gasket thingy. Pull apart the sides and look in. Betcha a dollar to a donut there's mold in there. It's a gross, nasty problem whirlpool customer service doesn't give a damn about. That's where water sets after wash cycles. There are tablets call "Affresh" which can be run with hot water for a cycle to attempt to clean out the mold/mildew. Not cheap, not fair, and probably will only be a start to a maintenance type cure if you've had the washer for awhile. May take some manual labor with bleach as well. NOT a sanitary washer. This is an unbelieveable problem with a washer. Piece of ****.

Moldy door ring Maytag Neptune Frontloader & poor cleaning

This is an extremely annoying problem and a very effective solution is baking soda! You should place around 200 grams of baking soda into the empty drum and then run a full cycle hot or boil wash.

This is a very effective method of reducing and preventing mold in a w/machine. I would recommend you run this "maintenance" wash once per month to prevent further build up of mold in the machine.

You can purchase a replacement door ring if the mold is extremely stubborn. However the Baking Soda also has the effect of neutralising any residue and odour that may be associated with it.

Hope this helps. Please remember to rate my answer. Thank You.

Clean clothes that smell bad

Peace,
ngafm at your service!
You may have a small amount of water or lint lift in the machine somewhere that is not completely dumping out !
This is sometimes common on front loaders! Or the pump is weak!
I tell my customers to try running the washer without clothes once a week with hot water and a 1/4 cup of bleach!
. BUT the first load you do after this must be white in case there is a drop of bleach left in the system, that it does not spot bleach a white spot on your colored clothes!

If not this does not remedy the situation you will need hands on service!
please rate me here at our site before you sign off!
Thank You!
