Question about Televison & Video
*** PLEASE READ EVERYTHING *** I recently acquired this picture tube TV from my father that was manufactured September 2004 and I have a remarkable story behind it. Let's call the first owner Billy Bob (cause I don't know the first owner's name): Billy bought the TV and used it for a couple years. Then he decided to get a house and was moving. He put the TV in the bed of his truck but forgot to close the tailgate. As he started backing the truck out, the TV fell out and landed on the top right corner of the casing. Surprisingly the TV still works and even has a nice picture! He gave it to my father and he used it for 5 years. Now I have it. The problem is the remote sensor has not worked ever since the accident. I would at least like to know why this fall caused the sensor to be non functional. I checked the circuit board and there were no cracks in it. Could this be caused by a malfunctioning micro chip?
Read your detailed description, and I've the opinion that everyone posts a problem with Fixya, Must see this, and understand how to place ones' problem to experts who works with Fixya. I should appreciate you.
There are two reasons for the problem you faces with this fault. The first one is with the remote control itself. as it may be very old [if it is the original remote control to this set], more than 7 years, according to you,
it must be checked for its infrared signal emission. I'll give you a link that will help you in this matter, after I've posted this solution to you. You can understand how te remote control functions, and what is the way to make it right again [if can], from that link.
Second cause will be to the infrared remote sensor, which can be located just behind the infrared sensor window at the front of the TV. It will be a three terminal component, will be diretly soldered to the circuit board. I hereby post pictures of it, for your information. The device may vary in size and shape, but will have almost the same structure.
This component can be bought from most of the electronic sparepart shops at your town. It won't cost more. see the component. Will look like somewhat brownish black in color. If the remote controls' out signals are OK, the fault will be of this remote sensor, Its system control IC sill be OK; as you see picture with proper color.
See the pictures of the remote sensors.
You may have got an idea about how a remote sensor may look like I thinks. Check the link that I'm going to post in the comment box and try to understand, what a remote control handset,Can someone help me with my TV? - 2_10_2012_1_45_31_pm.jpgts and reepair to it, from that link.
