Question about Gateway Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have an intel motherboard D865GLC/D865PESO. Well it used to power on only after couple times of plugging and unplugging it in, and it would stay on. Now the fans start, the lights go on but it doesn't boot up. No beeps and just the sound of fans blowing. I noticed there are 4 capacitors bulging. C7H7.. C3C3...C2C2 and C2C3. Could that be the problem? Or it may be something else?

Caps that are bulging is a good sign of a soon to be d.o.a motherboard, but other things can also cause the problem,I would check the power supply to see if all the voltages are correct, then check to see if the ram is seated all the way,and if need be reseat them, then check the video card to se if it is seated all the way in(only if you have video card being used)and not onboard video.also check to see that everything is clean and free of dust.check and see if the cpu thermal paste is still good,if it isnt then replace it.You can also try resetting the bios by unplugging the power supply,(remove the coin battery)if you can not find which jumper to clear the cmos(bios),and wait about 30 sec. to 1 min..then put it back in and plug back in and turn on.If the caps are leaking or have a brownish or whitish substance on top of them then its a good possibility that its dead.

SOURCE: replacement for INTEL Desktop board D865GLC

I've found an Asus P4SD i865GV online:
http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=ASUS-P4SD-NOAGP-R&cat=MBB

It seems to have the same CPU socket, FSB and RAM types, and the chipset is almost the same model. I'd say this would work.

If you can't get that, just make sure to get a motherboard with the following qualities:

Front side bus (FSB): 800, 533, and 400 MHz
RAM type: Dual Channel DDR 400 MHz (PC3200), 333 MHz (PC2700), and 266 MHz (PC2100).
CPU socket: 478

How do I reset the CMOS settings on this motherboard (D865GLC)?

Hi,

The easiest way to reset the CMOS is to pop the coin-type battery out for a few minutes, reinsert it, then reboot your computer.

NOTE: Make sure you unplug the power cord and then hold the power on button in for about 5 to 10 seconds. This will drain any stored energy in the system. (Capacitors)

Thanks for using Fixya.

Need upgrade Memory for Intel D865GLC/D865PESO

If you goto www.crucial.com and use their memory checker tool you can find out which RAM you need as well as the maximum your motherboard can handle.
Next open your desktop or the section on the base of your laptop where the RAM resides to make sure you have a spare slot and how many slots you have.
It is recommended if installing more than one memory module that you used a matched pair. This is to ensure compatibility. A matched pair is when you buy two of the exact same modules (same spec and manufacturer, model etc.).
Hope this helps,

I cannot acces my computer stays at intel screen

Open the computer, and you will see near the bottom right corner a blue jumper on 2 of 3 pins. The pins are J9J4 and the jumper should be on pins 1 and 2.

Turn off the computer and the power supply, remove the little round battery from the motherboard, move the blue jumper to pins 2 and 3 and wait 40 seconds. Reinstall the battery, and then move the blue jumper back to pins 1 and 2.

Turn on the power supply, restart the computer and the BIOS settup utility should appear

I bought a mother board from a swap meet but it didnt come with the wiring up diagram and im lost as to how to wire it up only for the power reset etc.. not sure which way they plug into i think i have...

Hi kjstenny, not sure where you saw the board E210882. This is not a valid Intel model number. The Intel D865GLC is a valid model number & you can download the manual for this at the link below:
http://download.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/d865glc/BFLC_English.pdf
Main Intel link for D865GLC:
http://support.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/D865GLC/LC_manual.htm
MB layout page 14 & 15. Than see page 13 block D, J9J1 Front panel pins. Page 43 for jumper connections.

Intel D865PCD (Matched). Front panel, page 34 & 35. Download manual at this link:
http://download.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/d865pcd/sb/cdenglish.pdf
Main link: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=1671&lang=eng

Intel D865PCK - (No Match). (Or no longer listed).
D865PE50 - (No Match). (Or no longer listed).

The most common wire color for each 2-pin connector will be negative, including the color black.

Good luck kjstenny!
Still need help, just post your question.
