That means that the OS is not seeing the modem. Can you see the modem phone connector. If you do, You may need to reinstall the modem driver.
First, Go to the Control Panel >ssyatem>Hardware > Device Manager.
Go down to ports(COM and LPT)
If Com1 is there , right click and click uninstall.
The go up the page and click on the plus sign . the right click on the modem (if it is there) and click on uninstall.
Then restart your unit.
If this does not work, you need to go to Dell's website and download the modem drivers.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Can I download modem on dell laptop

Most of the time on laptops if there is no phone input for a modem you cannot just plug in and dial up. The process i use at home for my pc is dialing through my cell phone. If your carrier will allow you to tether your phone without extra charges check your phone manufacturers website for modem software. You then just connect your phone through a usb cable and set a internet connection matching your carriers instructions. Another solution is dificult without networking knowledge but you can set up a home pc with a wireless antennae as a ad-hoc server through internet connection sharing and then allow your laptop to connect through the "server" pc.

Inspiron 6400 wirless connection

HI
If the browser shows working offline and wireless is connected fine then it could be an issue where work offline is checked in the browser.
In internet explorer 6 its found on File in the menu, if work offline is already checked, check it again to remove the check mark and then try, if its internet explorer 7 its found on tools, the same steps and in firefox under file,
Also try this step as well, if its internet explorer go to tools-internet options-and in internet options-go to connections tab-there is dial up and networking box-remove the dial up connections from the box-and check the one never dial a connection

also check the firewalls and antivirus programs, post your results.

thank you

Dell latitude E4300 wont connect to internet

Recently I purchased an Vostro 1310 for my mother as her Inspiron 1100 was dying; I installed all the drivers everything was peachy but frustratingly enoguh I could not connect to our home modem -

I alleviated this issue by taking it off obtain ip address automatically.

Then I put the following data in

IP 10.0.0.3
Subnet 255.255.255.0
Gateway 10.0.0.138

DNS preffered 10.0.0.138
Alternate Blank

I had to assign the laptop an IP as you can see and point it in the right direction which was to my modem. So all you need to do is find his modems default path and it should be sweet.

After I applied these changes it had no issues connecting - It might be a conflict of ip assigning on the network.

Before you rate get back to me if it didn't work - I want to help you solve this issue and get a Fix Ya! rating ;)

The connection for my internet cable is loose.

If you are referring to the ethernet cable that goes to your modem/router you might try purchasing a new one, may not be an issues with the laptop.

Hi

Enabling TCP/IP ports needs to be done from your firewall. Often (these days) two firewalls are in place. One on the internet router/modem and another on your PC. Example McAfee, Norton, ZoneAlarm, etc. Windows XP and Vista also have built-in firewalls (port blockers). If ports are required to be opened, you need to configure it on your internet router/modem and also on your software firewall (as the case might be).
Each internet router/modem and software firewall have specific ways to configure ports so you have to look up the vendors steps or reply with more info and will respond at best effort.
