Question about Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

I have a 1970's Panasonic Flip Clock Radio. (Model RC6530) The radio works just fine, but the flp clock stopped flipping. There is power going to the unit. I can also hear a low hum from the flip clock motor. I've tried electronic cleaner/lubricator from Radio Schack on the cog wheels--nothing. The The shaft leading into the motor does not turn--I didn't want to force it. The number do turn when I turn the time adjusting dial located on the outside of the cabinet. Any ideas would be appreciated.

The answer provided to this question is incorrect. The person who answered it described taking down the motor on a later model Panasonic flip clock (like an RC-6010/15 or RC-6025). The motor in a RC-6530 consists of a sealed, self-contained gearbox that is held in an electromagnetic field to produce the movement. Unfortunately, when one of the gears fails, it's nearly impossible to fix. I've read other suggestions that a hole could be drilled to apply oil. Also not helpful. The motor is not froze up or noisy due to lack of lubrication typically (I've looked at more than one), it's a cracked gear on the main shaft.

It looks like your problem might be an easy fix, at least. If the gear train between the motor and clock got stripped, you'd be in a bit more trouble. If the motor just isn't spinning, remove it from the side of the clock housing. There are 2 screws (or nuts) holding it in place. When you get it off, the cover for the motor will also be off. Apply some 3 in 1 oil, or perhaps just a tiny bit of penetrating oil, and give it a spin. From what I've read, it should do just fine. A lot of people use wd40, but I understand that can gum up over time.

This is a "at your own risk" type of repair, but as long as you unplug it before dismantling the radio, I think you'll be fine.

PS: It might work a bit better if you post clock problems in a clock related area, next time. I was wondering why there were so many washing machine answers!!

Yes there is a fuse in the dryer. The black circular thing is a high limit thermostat. Beneath it is the thermal fuse. It is smaller (dime size) and is mounted to the right side of the heating element housing. It is alittle tough to see and get at. You must use the original Maytag part kit.It comes with a new high limit therm. and fuse.

SOURCE: Kenmore Elite H3t washer

What a blessing to find others with the same exact problem. Had a call in to Kenmore service center and was having to wait 8 days till a repair man could show up. Service call would have been at least $110 for the man to show up at the door. After discovering this website my wife and I are proud to announce that we found two (our 2 year olds) socks and one of my wife's nursing pads clogging up the filter along with some thread and a little gunk. Cleaned it out and in 10 minutes from start to finish we were done. Ran the machine twice and find it is running just like new. Like other postings here we found that a 45 minute wash took 90 minutes because the machine never could spin out on the first try. We thought it had problems balancing out the load of wash. Now it spins out quickly and without wasting time. I think of how much extra money it cost us to run the machine like this. Also, while we were sitting in our laundry room admiring the return of our washer I took a look at our complimentary Kenmore Elite HE3t dryer. Everyone who reads this far please do the following:
1. Unscrew the bottom panel of the dryer (unplug machine first)
2. Unscrew the black metal chute that goes from the lint catcher down to the blower (two sheet metal screws) pullout and clean.
3. Unscrew entire lint catcher from inside. (5 screws total) and clean.
4. Reinstall
5. One more step to really get all the lint includes pulling the entire machine out and removing the outside vent from the base of the machine. There is a 2 foot pipe to be cleaned out that extends from the other side of the blower.

I could not believe how much lint had bypassed the lint screen and had created a wall in front of the blower. I had previously checked the vent pipe leading to the outside wall and found no buildup whatsoever so I figured everything was okay. Was I ever wrong. I had found that the dryer (which is only 4 and 1/2 years old) was now taking 59 minutes to dry at normal temp instead of
the 41 minutes to dry when we first bought the machine. After I performed this service the dryer was back to drying the clothes in 41 minutes time or even less!!! In the future I will do this service, as described above, on a yearly basis. Once again we were wasting energy because we did not do this simple maintenance.

SOURCE: Kenmore 90 Series Washing Machine

the coupling does go bad, Often, very often
one of the two spiders is attached to the motor shaft, one is attached to the gearbox input shaft and the rubber ring mates them together, the motor shaft coupling collapses often,
the coupling is ~$16-$25 depending on the parts sales place.
If you can see the coupling, you probably already have the body off,
If not remove the body
from there its easy to replace

undo 2 spring clips that hold the pump on the outer of the motor,
pull pump forward and off the motor shaft and swing aside,
remove screw from head of spring clip between motor and gearbox, remove this spring clip (remember position)
swing motor against coupling to loosen other spring clip, remove spring clip
pull motor forward and away from gearbox
break couplings off shaft of motor and gearbox.

  • NOTE: new coupling sets have a metal center hub to combat this very common failure,
ask the parts supplier if they have one with metal hubs,
if they offer to sell you one identical to the picture, all plastic, old style
Fit new couplings to motor and gearbox shaft using wooden dowel between the teeth, on the hub centers, hit the dowel, not the gear, with a hammer.
fit new rubber ring to gearbox,
install in reverse order
rotate motor to align the teeth

Lost power to my house, came back on outlet has power clock on radio works radio has no power. wall clock on same outlet works fine

There is a battery backuo in the radio. This is probably powering the clock. It looks like the radio power supply is either fried or the hardwired fuse is blown.
Take a look at the manual. If you take out the battery back up does the clock still work? GPX MP3 Player KC232S user manual

Panasonic clock radio RC7469. Electric motor that actuates flip panels (hours, & Minutes) operates but the primary gear extending from the motor itself does not rotate. The motor unit is sealed.

If you have situation like this just open clock, remove clock assembly from base. Use LUB OIL 88/200 by CRC Industries, two point where you should apply oil: drive shaft and gear box (two point of lubrication - power wire enter point in to clock and point where wire go to motor). Lubricate it well and let clock run for 48 hours add additional oil if needed.

75 ohm antenna connection ''disappeared''

My antenna connector came off as well. After removing the two screw fron the back (on top), open the CD cover and remove the large screw at the front of the compartment. Now flip the unit over with the front of unit toward you. Insert a small flat screw driver between the cover and the botom on either side. There are two large tabs (either side) on the botom. pry away and up. Flip over and remove the cover. Careful of the ribbon cable inside, it is long enough to lift and flip the cover.

Clock light working

Ok, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you if you are having this problem and you really hate not having the clock go get a new head unit(stereo). From what I was told this is not a simple fix, they will have to replace the entire stereo. So, you may as well deal with it, get a little clock to put near it, or buy a new stereo from like circuit city and have it installed there(which is free for most stereos). I know, I hate it too, but I can't stand not being able to just look at what time it is. Plus I like to flip through stations.... :(

Display keeps going on and off

Sorry it took so long to get back to you with a answer to your question. You must try to reset the microprocessor in the Clock/Radio. To do this you must unplug the Clock/Radio from the A/C power source. Then remove the Internal battery(CR2430). Let the Clock/Radio set without a power source for about 3 hours. This will discharge the microprocessor and reset it. After you have discharged the microprocessor, you can reinstall the internal battery. Connect the Clock/Radio to the A/C power source. The Clock/Radio's Functions should have returned to normal function. If the Clock/Radio did not return to normal function, you must replace the internal battery and again let the microprocessor discharge. After the microprocessor has discharged, put in the new internal battery and reconnect the Clock/Radio to the A/C power source. The Clock/Radio should have returned to normal function. If you are still having problem with the functions of the Clock/Radio, You will have to call Emerson Customer Support. The telephone number for the Emerson customer support is 1-800-909-1240. you can call them between the hours of 8am-4:30pm CT. Give them the make and model number of the Clock/Radio and ask them for assistance. I hope this information help you with your problems with the Clock/Radio. Thank you for using FixYa and have a nice day!
