A wire brush will clean it, it's only coffee. Chuck it in a glass of Coca Cola overnight.

SOURCE: how to clean the kitchenaid java express coffee maker

The Coffee Maker can be descaled using
a packaged descaling agent or vinegar.
Always mix the descaling solution using
cool water.
• When using a descaling agent, follow
the directions on the package for the
recommended amounts of descaling
agent and water to use.
• When using vinegar, fill the carafe with
a solution consisting of 1⁄2 vinegar and
1⁄2 water.
Descaling Steps:
1. Before descaling, always remove the
water filter (see “Installing the Ion-
Exchange Water Filter” on page 7) and
make sure the brew basket contains
no coffee or coffee filters.
2. Run the Coffee Maker through a
complete brewing cycle using a full
carafe of the descaling solution.
3. If the cleaning needed indicator lights
after the brewing cycle is complete,
repeat Step 2 using fresh descaling
solution. Keep repeating Step 2 until
the cleaning needed indicator no
longer lights after brewing.
4. Rinse the Coffee Maker by running
it through two brewing cycles using a
full carafe of fresh, cool water
each time.
5. Wash the brew basket in hot, soapy
water and rinse with hot water. This
part can also be washed in the upper
rack of the dishwasher.
6. Reinstall or replace the water filter.
Replace the filter every three months
under normal usage, or more often
with heavy use.

SOURCE: need manual for pro 12 kitchenaid coffee maker.

Manuals and guides may be located online at KITCHENAID.COM.

In the upper-right hand corner of the site, click on CUSTOMER CARE and then click on LOCATE MANUALS AND GUIDES.

It will then ask you for your model number.

For an espresso maker, the model number is located on a silver sticker behind the water reservoir. For a coffee maker, the model number is located on a silver sticker underneath the machine.

On the website, type in your model number exactly as it appears on this sticker and click GO.

This will then bring up the literature listing for your particular unit. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view the files.

Also, Kitchenaid Customer Service will send you a physical copy of an instruction manual at no charge if you choose to call them. Their toll-free telephone number is:

My Kitchenaid 5kes100 espressomachine won't heat up the steam boiler.

You need to replace the boiler top that includes the elements. When one element has failed the other one stops as well if it is included in the circuit, it's the same as having a broken wire.

Swapping a new boiler as old one stopped heating, I checked both fuses and they were ok

Check the elements, there are 2 on the steam boiler, if 1 is open then that stops them. If your boiler comes complete that's fine, if you just get the element part then you must replace all the seals. I replace the seals on a new boiler anyway, originals are silicone and I upgrade to viton seals. Large one at the bottom, 3 small ones on side of base and one finger sized one at top steam pipe. Check switches for operation, sometimes they stick, if CRC does not fix them then replace. Make sure steam tap shuts off properly. The group head seal goes hard over time, replace while you are working on it if it is. Check thermostat has continuity when cold, on the side at the back of the boiler.

I have a brand new Kitchenaid Artisan, which works perfectly apart from one thing; it doesn't appear to output hot water probably. It does output steam and a lot of it, which eventually will turn into...

If it is a 5KES100 model then yes that's how you do it, you get your hot water from the steam boiler so the steam needs to be released before the water can come through. Turn the tap wide open and press and hold the steamer pump button. The rush of steam on full open is short lived.

The pump probably has air in it, open the steam valve and pump it through.

Coffee very weak, some grounds are still dry after coffee is made

I2 have same. Problem = not a nozzle missing, but a black plastic diffuser mounted below the orifice. Plastic becomes brittle and disintegrates within weeks. Pieces fall into grounds so you may never notice. Photo is of pieces I recovered from the grounds. Horribly bad bit of engineering on an otherwise great product. (Saved how much over cost of stamped stainless?) I have not been able to find replacement part, although OEM piece would fail again within weeks. ALL ProLine makers MUST fail in the same way - the plastic part CANNOT survive actual use. KitchenAid should offer steel replacement! ad74f59.jpg

Green slime in coffee machine

Try running a couple cycles through of full strength vinegar. If that doesn't do it run a weak bleach solution (6 to 1 / water to bleach) through it. Repeat vinegar every week then once a month if it clears.

I have a Kitchenaid coffee pot model KCM515 and have lost the manual. It is not working & display is err4. What does this mean? jgit

ERR 4 in a Kitchenaid coffee maker indicates a button is stuck in place. Please be sure to check all of your buttons and see if any are stuck depressed into the machine.

A .pdf user manual and exploded parts views for this machine are available online at Click "Customer Care" in the upper-right hand corner of the main page and then click "Locate Manuals and Guides." You will need to enter your model number exactly as it appears on the bottom of the appliance. You should find it on a white sticker.

If this is not helpful, I would suggest contacting Kitchenaid Customer Service to see what other options may be available.

Their toll-free telephone number is 1-800-541-6390.
