SOURCE: Sony Dual-Deck Cassette Player/Recorder, doors won't close

Are both sides not staying shut? If it's only one side, look to see if the latch is broken. You should see an arm move when you press down the eject button - while the door is open, press the eject button and see where the arm moves. You should see a hook that catches the door and keeps it closed. It could be broken, or just jammed. Look at the other side of the deck and see it it looks like it's working the same. Unjam the latch arm if it's stuck, or replace it if it's broken.

SOURCE: cannot get cassette doors to eject

the motor that drives the mechanism is jammed or burnt out.if you remove the cover and turn the big metal weights driven by the motor, the unit will dock the assembly and the door should open.
it thinks it is playing a tape and that is why the eject doesnt work

SOURCE: Ive got a Sony tc-ke600s

Chances are it will be the belts which will be either worn or loose. To replace them make a note of how the fit, take photos if that helps. Once off measure the diameter in mm (you don't need to be spot on with it). Then enter "Cassette drive belt ??mm" into google.

Why won't the door to my cassette deck on Victoria tunewriter III close once I have inserted a cassette?

I'm not familiar with this unit but the frequent cause of this problem is that the record/playback head is not retracted from previous use. Frequently caused by drive belt problems - loose, broken or off track. Try running the drive with the door closed and no cassette. This seldom is a problem that the owner can fix. Professional service is recommended.

I have an Aiwa Surround Sound Theatre system Model #cx-nmt720. Has a 3 disc player, am/fm, and 2 cassette decks (one on right allows recording/dubbing) Everything works great except cassette...

The unit may be damaged or may just need adjustment- only a tape deck technician will be able to answer the question after seeing the unit. To answer it remotely like this, is really an impossible task.

What is the bias control's function?

The Bias control is used during recording. If you turn down the bias, you will get more highs, but the distortion will increase, and then start to increase dramatically if you back off the bias more.

As far as playing tapes from different decks goes.......

1..Does the tape that you recorded on your deck sound OK on your deck ?
2..Does the tape that you recorded on your deck sound OK on other decks ?

If 1 and 2 are true, then your deck is OK.

If the tapes recorded on a specific deck sound bar on yours, but 1 and 2 are true, then the other deck is faulty.

When a deck leaves the factory, the head is aligned to a " standard " tape. By standard tape I mean a very special tape recorded in such a way, that a tech can tell if the head is out of align and "tweek " the physical alignment of the tape head..

All decks are aligned just a little differently, but fairly close to each other.

first do the mechanicals....is the head of your deck spotlessly clean ?. Use 99% pure isopropanol alcohol and a cotton swab. Never use anything metal to clean the tape head. If you scratch the head, its toast.

If your deck is clean, plays its own recordings well, and those recordings play well on other decks, then your deck is not the problem.

Hope this helps,
Rob

Won't record and play sounds muffled

Muffled sound is either damaged media (is it mostly the Left Channel? Multiple tapes or not?) or dirty Playback Head. Clean the heads and transport.

Please define better what "won't record" means. Tapes to be recorded need to have the little tab in the corner of the cassette shell present to allow the machine to enter record mode.

UNABLE TO OPEN CASSETTE DOOR ON RECORDING DECK --HAVE ALREADY TRIED UNPLUGGING UNIT WITH NO RESULTS--SEEMS CASSETTE HEAD INSIDE DOOR HAS NOT RETRACTED FROM THE TAPE TO ALLOW DOOR TO OPEN

Plug it back in ... see if you can get it to play or rewind ...

You may have to force it ... and in the process you will probably damage your tape. do you have a splice kit? If you do, you can remove the small piece of tape that will no doubt be damaged.

Denon Dual Cassette Deck DRW-660 will not eject either tape. I put a tape in right side, played a bit, stopped, will not eject. I put another tape in left side, closed, cannot eject. Cannot eject either....

Some dual decks use a common drive belt. It may have become too slack (due to age) to drive mechanism. I am sure its time to change all belts in both decks. This will solve the problem

Door won't open

It might be a model that has a special IC that allows the door to open and close.

You'll need to take the case off.

try hifiengine.com...that site may have the service manual.
