Dv7 motherboard won't turn on

I was repairing a hp dv7 laptop power jack. Somewhere during the process it's possible that i got polarity mixed up, but maybe not. Either way i ordered a brand new jack, and it does not work either. The power jack has an LED on it that should turn on when it's plugged in. This LED is powered by the motherboard itself, not directly from the power provided by the power supply. This LED does not turn on either. I have unplugged every component from the motherboard, including all memory modules and CPU. I try turning on the board and it doesn't seem to turn on (no LEDs light up). With the battery plugged in the "charging" LED flashes, but i hear a faint clicking sound coming from the motherboard, which i think indicates a short.

The entire time while the motherboard is plugged in i can hear repeating sounds coming from the motherboard. I hear a click that keeps repeating, and some high-pitched sound that keeps repeating.

I know that the ac adapter is fine, and i know that the power jack is fine since i measured the voltages on the board.

Click seems to be coming from a capacitor on the motherboard near the area where the battery is plugged in. When the motherboard is plugged in and the battery is out, the capacitor stays charged with 19.6V.

When i plug the battery in i start hearing the "clicking" sound, and the capacitor pulses between 0-19.6V. Not sure if this is normal behavior or not.

It does not. The power jack is a cable/harness jack, so it plugs in and no solder is required.

Also, i can measure parts of the motherboard and find that there is indeed a 19V current going through the motherboard, so i know that the power supply and jack work fine.

Also, i tested the power switch, it is also works.

I dropped my HP elitebook 6930p. it won't turn on. the blue on/off light blinks once every 5 seconds. what should i do?

Here below are possible causes and troubleshooting steps of laptop that can't power on, hope it may help:
Possible causes:

1. AC adapter failure.
2. Power jack failure.
3. Motherboard failure.

Possible troubleshooting steps and repair solutions:
1. Test HP EliteBook 6930p charger with a digital multimeter. It's possible that you have a failed AC adapter. If you don't have a multimeter, test your laptop with another known good AC adapter.

2.It's possible that power jack (socket where you plug the AC adapter) is broken. Remove the motherboard and take a closer look at the power jack. In some cases you can fix the jack by resoldering it on the motherboard. In other cases you have to replace the jack with a new one. Using a multimeter, test if the power goes to the motherboard through the jack.

Hope you just need to replace the hp power supply to fix this problem.

My hp pavilion dv6-2117ax laptop won't power up (no power light on where adaptor meets laptop). Replaced power adaptor / charger and laptop powered up and operated for a day and then next day woul

The laptop probably isn't charging. Could be a bad d/c connector on the laptop or the battery is bad. Remove the battery and plug in the a/c adapter and see if it powers on. Wiggle the a/c plug in gently while pressing the power button on the laptop. It powers on and off briefly then I'd say it's the d/c jack on the laptop, bad sodder joint.

Sounds like your Internal DC Power Jack is broken. It has to be repaired or eventually it will completely break and you won't be able to boot after the battery drains. It calls for taking your laptop apart since it is on the motherboard or sits in a slot on the motherboard. Most times it is soldered on the motherboard. You have to unsolder the old and solder a new on it it's place.

I am not exactly sure what is the problem. Are you certain it is a power problem with the mother board? It could also be damaged or non functional.
Here's a troubleshooting guide from HP that might help you.
