Question about Garden
I have a craftsman ready start 21 inch 6.50 mower with a briggs and stratton motor. It has fresh gas, new plug, new key, the keyway is not damaged, gas to the plug. It's a 124T02, 3847B2. I can't get it to even act like it wants to start. Thanks for your help. Also plug gapped at 0.30.
Hello sir, mower will not start or run, does it have good spark, good compression,or only runs on full choke, engine surges up and down, are you getting fuel to the engine if not try this, your carb. is clogged up here is what you can do for a simple repair and other things if you want to, you will need a new air filter, spark plug, oil, if you want to a new blade also ,sears has a mini tune up kit that you can buy. now for the carb, empty fuel tank, place mower on side to where carb is facing up place a rag under carb to catch excess fuel, remove the bowl nut and bowl careful of the gaskets, now spray carb cleaner in the small port holes in the carb steam in the middle of the carb until clean, now spray the bowl nut holes until clean there are three, after cleaning put bowl on the same way you removed it with dip towards front of float, put bowl nut in, now while you have mower on side drain the oil remove filler cap to drain, put pan under spout, mower holds 21 o/z of 30 wt oil,you can remove blade to get sharpened or put new one on,to remove blade put a pair of vice grips on the body where the blade can stop and not turn it is usually a 9/16 or 1/2 socket, put blade on add oil,add new and fresh gas,you should be good to go,hope this helps, what i am telling you here is what i would do if it was here in the shop, any comments welcome, thank you.~~

In order for there to be a spark at the plug, make sure the plug is grounded to the engine, it will not "fire" if it isn't.
Remove the cover with the crankrope, there should be a thin black wire going to the coil, going to a ground lug that kills the engine. Try unplugging this wire and re-check the fire...if it fires, there is a fault in this wire and should be replaced. The mower will run without it, but will not stop without "choking" out the engine

Disconnect the sparkplug andf ground it. Turn the push mower on it side and scrap away all the grass from under the deck and look for the plug. If you cannot find one, drain the oil out from the fill tube into a pan, buy turning it onto it's side into the pan.

Most likely a blocked vent in the fuel cap. 3 mins is too long for a fuel system problem if that's not it, so if there's still a problem, suspect the ignition coil is failing when itt gets hot.
