We have an older Canon.... I think D560 or something like that, a combo photocopier fax. It is at the office, and I am home now, but need to make copies for card stock through the bypass feedin. I drop the tray down and place a single paper in but it does not catch or operate. As we have never used the bypass tray.... is it supposed to be automatic or is there some setting we are supposed to use. We have an AGM meeting later today and desperately need to get it to work. I really thought that once you drop the cover down to feed the paper that it would work automatically.
Many thanks for any help

Plug the phone line into the plug marked L on the back, make sure you are dialing the full number, The fax won't work in an office with digital phone service, you need an analog phone line like at home. In fax setup you need the type of dialing set properly, tone or pulse dialing, check also with Canon support, 1-800-828-4040
you copy first side normaly. then on left side open bypass deck.Put the paper, so that the side on wich you want to print is down. Automatically when you put paper in bypass, the machine ask you wich format is it ( eg. A4 ), confirm with OK, then you need to tell machine wich type of paper ( eg. plain paper ) and OK. then green copy key.
This is a known problem with the MX850 - Canon thinks it works, but it needs to be FAX Only when you're out of the office and TEL PRIORITY when you're in the office - then you hit "Hook" when you hear an incoming call as a fax tone. It's a manual answer machine when in TELEPHONE Priority
