I want to design amplifiers for my unused car speakers. I have 100W sony Xpload speakers.I want to provide power from a preferably small sized, light weight rechargeable battery. It will be better if i can add two separate amplifiers for both speakers I have.

Your problem would be in doing this ,is that the battery you want to use may not have enough amperage to drive the amps as they do draw a lot of current

I have a Sony CDX-M30 Marine Stereo that when the volume is turned up over 20, it cuts off, then comes back on and if you don't turn it down, it cuts off again. Recently, it only has to be around...

One possible cause is a mismatched speaker system. Most stereo equipment specifies 8 ohm speakers to match the 8 ohm amplifier output resistance. A well known electronic formula states maximum power transfer occurs when the resistance in and the resistance out are equal. When there is a mismatch, more power is required to obtain the same sound pressure levels. By turning the volume up higher to do this, the electrical requirements to drive the speakers at that level may be exceeding that which the amp can provide. When this happens, the amp shuts down due to overload. Continued operation in this condition can cause permanent failure.

Another possible cause is the power requirements of the speakers to be driven properly. Larger speakers require more power to move the speaker coil and and cone. Connecting a speaker that requires 10 watts to be driven to an amplifier that provides up to 8 or even 10 watts will require that the amp be operating at 100% of capacity. An amplifier run like this will have a short life.

Connect speakers that match the amplifier's impedance requirements (8 ohm types are pretty standard / common) and will operate with the amount of power (in watts) that the amp can supply. Make sure you're comparing watt ratings in similar units. "P-P" (Peak to Peak), "Peak" (or Max") and "RMS" are typical terms. RMS is the is the most common standard used, but as you'll see below, some manufacturers like to use different units to make their products seem to have more power than they actually do. You can convert easily between the terms like this:

200W P-P equals 100W peak, and also equals 71W RMS

"Peak" is 1/2 the value of "Peak to Peak" (P-P) and "RMS" which stands for Root Mean Squared, is 70.7% of Peak. 200W P-P sure sounds like it's more than 70W RMS - doesn't it? It's all pretty simple once you know. Lastly, the fictional unit "Music Power" can be anything really, but is often either Peak or P-P values. It's just more smoke and mirrors by some manufacturers.

I hope this helps and good luck. Please rate my reply. Thanks!

Selecting an amplifier!

Buy a quality 2 channel amp. About 600 rms and set one channel as your highs using your crossover and then the second channel on "low" position for your sub. wire directly in to your low's channel with your sub at 2 ohms and then wire your speakers to the other channel.

Can I plug 5pc home theater speakers directly into pc tower or will I fry something? The speakers (made by LG) R from an old Sanyo DVD/VCR/Audio Home Theater System which no longer works. Home Theater...

Attaching speakers to an under-powered amp won't DRAW too much power. And we're not talking about an amp here, we're talking about a PC which can
only provide enough juice for headphones. All it provides is Line Level (millivolts) output for an external amp to process.

The speakers are NOT self amplified. If they were they'd have batteries or wall power cords and RCA style input connectors.

What you will need is a replacement for the dead Sanyo electronics that can handle 4-ohm speaker loads. Then you can draw the output of your soundcard into IT with RCA cables..

I have a jvc kds580 and i wanna run a passive Bazooka EL and 4 other speakers. Can i drive the sub with the 2 RCA OUTS on the back of the unit? If not, how do i drive the sub?

RCA Outs are very low power signal connectors. They would have a hard time running a pair of headphones.

What you need is a Power Amp that the RCA's plug into and your subs Connect to.
You need an Amp (Amplifier) that powers a similar number of Watts to what your Subs Capacity is. (ie; your subs have a ratting of 100W (Watts), then you need an amplifier with 100W per channel; that's a 200W amp for a two way (Speaker) amp, or a 400W rating for an amp with 4 channels (4 Speaker connectors)
You can run a lower power amp on your subs, and use ony a portion of your speakers capacity; but if you get an amp that supplies more wattage than your speakers capacity, then you'll blow your speakers, their performance will deteriorate slowly. eventually they will not be able to generate a clear reproduction, Speakers are irrepairable.

Sorry for the long explanation.
This is something you wan't to do right, the first time.

Cheers,
Richard.

Check the 12v wire running from the battery to the amplifier. Also the sony explode is a garbage subwoofer compared to the Alpine.. sony (they say 1200w max but its more like 100w to power the thing) Amp could be going. Is the amplifier hot when running. If there is a burnt smell comming from the amp, its the amplifier

Amp blowing speakers on one side

Either the speakers are old, or you need new ones. If you put new ones and it blew them again, then check the power rating, and make sure it is wired properly. if it is wired properly, then make sure the speakers are designed to handle the power of the amp> :) any other q's ... just ask me:)

Amp overheating

wire size depends on source, not load capability. your amp can provide 500 watts, so gage should be about 8, provided your speakers are 2 ohms each... you can measure them with ohmmeter. If you have 4 or 8 ohm speakers, you should get impedance matching transformers. Also, you should use a supply capacitor on power feed to amp of about 10 Farads...these are large and not cheap, but they provide "backup" power for heavy bass loads.
