To charge a PRS-300, you need an AC-Adapter (wall plug) from a PSP console.
As for the syncing problem, you may need a new USB cord.

Hi jmjohnson198!

1. Connect the reader to the AC Adapter (If available). If not, then connect the Reader via USB to the computer

2. Hit the reset button for 3 seconds.

3. The red steady light should come on, if not, try the reset again while the unit is connected

4. Allow the reader to charge for 40 Minutes (on PC make sure the computer does not go into sleep mode.

5. Disconnect the reader and see if operational.

GoodLuck!

Sony PRS 300 reader STUCK, FROZEN, 184 books on it!

did you use the usb to recharge it? maybe you've connected the usb to the ebook but it didn't recharge. The battery will drain if you just connect it to the computer but didn't recharge (bad contact between the book and usb, mine does that). try to recharge it, make sure the light beside the on/off button is on (red), let it sit for few hours that it should be fine

Check the USB setting or connectivity and probably set it to ask or prompt you when you connect to any device.

I bought the sony reader prs-300 for my girl on christmas 09

1. Connect the Reader to a different USB port of the Computer.
2. Connect the Reader directly to the USB port of the Computer; dont use any USB hub or adaptor to connect the Readr to the Comp.
3. Disconnect the Reader and then press the RESET button.
4. Try connecting the Reader to a different Computer to check whether the USB port of the Computer is working properly.
5. If the issue still persists, service may be required. Follow the below link to initiate the repair: http://eservice.sony.com/

Not holding the charge

Do you have a wall adapter for it? Instead of USB you should try connecting directly to a wall outlet. USB is 5 V and sometimes it needs steady and direct current
