Question about Audio Players & Recorders
The radio used to operate the ipod and now suddenly it won't recognize it's an ipod and it only flashes "reading". I haven't changed a thing. The ipod is a 5th generation click wheel unit.
It may be a glitch with the iPod. Try resetting it following these directions from the Apple web site:
Also, inspect the 66 jack on the bottom of your iPod for any debris and carefully clean with a plastic utensil as needed.

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

First off, simply press the center and menu buttons at the same time to reset the iPod video. That is the common way to fix a frozen iPod.
In regards to the Nano, sounds like the scroll wheel is defective. We would recommend replacing the scroll wheel if a reset does not do the trick.

The only thing that someone with some soldering experience can do is crack the ipod open and resolder the hold switch. Sometimes this switch becomes unsecured and will give the symptoms your ipod has. Short of that, you'll have to send it in for service.

The best way to reset this device is to just flip on then off the HOLD
switch, then right after doing that just hold in the middle button in
the ipod click wheel and MENU at the same time. Hold them down together
for at least 5 seconds and it will reset the device back to normal

Sometimes, you might find that your computer does not read that the iPod is connected to the USB port, preventing the synchronization of new files.
There are several potential causes for this lack of hardware recognition and many steps can be taken to troubleshoot the causes.
Reset your iPod's internal software using the key combination appropriate for your model. Apple's support documentation details how to do this for each available model.
Install all iTunes software updates and restart your computer.
Connect your iPod directly to a USB port on the computer.
Do not attach through a keyboard port or USB hub.
These might not provide enough power to operate the iPod.
Connect the iPod to a secondary USB port.
If the iPod is recognized now, the original USB port might be damaged.
Connect the iPod using a secondary iPod USB cable.
If the iPod is recognized now, the original USB cable might be damaged and should be replaced.
Restore the iPod using a computer that can read it as a last resort. Connect the iPod to another computer, launch iTunes and select "Restore" from the iPod information screen.
This will erase all data and restore default settings.
Contact Apple support or visit an Apple store for further help if your iPod still cannot be seen. An advanced hardware issue might be present and a warranty hardware replacement might be indicated.
Hope this helps
