Question about Sony VIAO P4 PCV-RS712 3.0GHz 512MB 200GB DVD RW DVD BRAND PC Desktop

1 Answer

The recent premium exercise

great answer in the test premium question..the results and process I experienced, if consistent across the board, is troubling with a capital T. I will be assembling my
perspective on this, over next few days, as I am waiting on responses to my enquiries..

bottom line..

i could only see one expert response at a time, and those only flipped when i reposted the problem. i did no evaluations of anyone..i will venture that those were done by others.

RoboTek covered what I missed and I think these two responses together makeup a good Wiki page.

Thanks for the props. I'll be looking for the results at some future time.

In your Lounge thread regarding the test where you exchanged thoughts with Robotek and others you reference that you sent emails to Lauren and me about the issues. Just so you know, I am only another expert here like everyone else. I don't have any other relationship with FixYa nor do I have a channel to staffers on FixYa.

I somehow became someone others looked to for questions they had and I did what you would do in a community. As far as I know from my sampling of your intelligence and intuition you will find yourself in the same boat. Robotek calls we who are like this FixYa Pros, a tilte he has proposed for a class of experts that can handle some responsibility within the Lounge, similar to a Moderator. I've asked for Mods since I joined as I'm a Mod somwhere else and mod a free clinic with another person.

The results of your test and your ability and problem solving skills brought you to the same conclusion several of us, Ekse, Benimur, Ginko, Robotek and I, just to name a few I can recall right now, have already concluded. What was interesting was your approach and just jumping to it. Another expert, no longer here did the same thing before the interface change. Lauren calls it the WideUI, that's because the pages are now written for a column width of 1024 (I believe) and before they were 800. When the layout changed is not consistent with the script changes in the Premium Qs and Live Chats, they were just around about the same time. So, when Lauren states WideUI, we have to accept we know what she means. I've tried to correct her on this but to no avail. So, apparently the office staff workers in the CA office refer to it as this (indicating a change over period of time).

Lauren is pretty good at Photoshop, no slouch for sure, but as far as I can tell not a programmer and cannot justify her acting as an expert in any other area in order to earn expert rights to see Premiums and Live Chats. So we voted her up into Wizdom ranks so she could participate and do an analysis as you have just done. She being staff and you not, carrys more weight in a meeting. So, the more you can educate her, especially in what you can ferret from programming assumptions would be most helpful to all of us in the end.

I disregarded Java, VisualBasic and even ActiveX programming and stuck with javascript (I built an aucion site using Cold Fusion, once and that was enough/I avoided ASP too)as I felt it would remain dominant eventually, as it has proven out in the long run. When I see things happening on a web site, I can tell if its a module, VBscript, Java Plugin, or whats now called AJAX. We were doing AJACS, that is using the DOM and style sheets to create Objects in a page with a unique IDs and then scripting out to an Object. XML when it started creeping into the chatter looked like it would hold a lot of promise, but I soon realized this was reinventing the wheel since it could already be done with what we had already. Then, MS tried to dominate the XML committee and had programmed Word to use XML to convert a document to a web page. Since then, XML has been slowing dying off.

Google gets credit for AJAX, but its just a poke in the eye of MS to do this and its an inside joke. Hell, you may already know all of this and more than me. We all know though that Google is MS's white whale.

Want to have some fun? Download Google Chrome and then visit "" and watch what happens. The more Chrome hits are there the more the meetings will be full of joy over at the IE8 team.

I started out to just let you know I'm not affiliated with FixYa other than being an expert so there isn't any misunderstandings... unless I read it wrong.

I meant to add, among we experts, when we use the Buddy Talk link now called Ask Me, we usually exchange the courtesy of a FixYa. Don't ask me why or how this got started but it is what it is; I just joined in on this when I realized what was happening. You will find out that there is a point in your ranking when a Helpful will hurt your ranking.

No need to change anything here, I just wanted to pass on the information to you since you seem to be newer here than others. Some experts might be pretty offended by it and not bother to answer you in fear of a Helpful.

How do I control fan speed?

Keeping the fans clean is especially important, because the fans blow out hot air and bring in fresh air to cool down the laptop.

Fans attract dust, however, which can slow them down, resulting in a hot laptop.

If the laptop overheats, vital parts can cease functioning altogether.

Consequently, keeping your laptop's fans clean is crucial.

The fan speed on a laptop can determine how it operates consistently and reliably.

You can slow it down or speed it up, based on the circumstances.

For instance, slowing down the fan speed may be useful in reserving processes or during a prolonged slow time.

Speeding it up is beneficial in keeping the laptop cool during ongoing use or high-traffic times. For the long term, find a happy medium for regular use, so you won't "psyche" out your computer by constantly adjusting the settings.

Click on the Start menu and select "Control Panel." Next, choose "Performance and Maintenance."

Select "Power Saver."

To slow the fan speed, locate the slider next to "CPU Processing Speed" and slide it down by moving across to the left.

To speed up the fan, move the slider to the right.

Press "Apply" and then "OK," if prompted.

Hope this helps

I could not upgrade neither windows XP, Windows 7 of this Product Model: GT5662. Would you assits? Thanks.

Hello kelvinvu, according to the information that I gathered from this computer model, it has Windows Vista 32 bit home premium installed on it. Windows XP is an older operating system so you can't "upgrade" to it. You could however install a fresh copy (more likely completely erasing all your previous information on vista and data files) or you could upgrade to Windows 7. Since you are using "Windows Vista 32 bit home premium", you have to upgrade to "Windows 7 32 bit home premium" or better. So if you were trying to "upgrade" to Windows 7 Home Basic, it will not allow that since it considers that a downgrade in the Operating System. You should actually be able to pop in the Windows 7 Home Premium CD while vista is running and start the upgrade process pretty painlessly that way. Just access the CD and walk through the menus for upgrading Vista to Windows 7. As a reminder, you must use the 32 bit discs. If you try and use the 64 bit discs (a different operating system as far as windows is concerned) you will have to go through the same process of installing a new version of windows (not upgrade). I hope this has solved your specific problem kelvinvu, have a great day!

What is the process of booting a computer

Firstly the system board does a Power On Self Test, checking all of the system board confgurations are working correctly and supply a "hand shake" back to the processor. The microprocessor then looks for instruction within the BIOS and complies with the commands. If the BIOS tells it that the first boot will come from the floppy drive, the system will look at the floppy and try to boot. If that fails due to no system disc, it will look for the next item on the list and carry on until a command works. If none of the commands work, it will "hang up".
The boot sector on a disc, is the first piece of information that the processor needs to get started, when it finds it, off it goes and the process is started.
I hope that answers your question.

Hi - I have a Allied AL-A300ATX motherboard. I'm

Usually memory chip or slot. Try refitting ram chips. Or only fit one, in each memory slot at a time.
Sometimes video code is mistaken for memory code so if a separate card is used ensure card is ok and, especially with agp, make certain it's in the slot properly.

Evo d510 small form factor with 1.79ghz processor what other size of processor can i put in

The Compaq Evo D510's motherboard has a Socket 478 processor socket, and uses an Intel 845G motherboard chipset.

This is information on the Socket 478 processor socket,

As you can see the processor socket has the holes, while the processor has the pins.
478 socket holes.

Only Intel processors that fit into a Socket 478 processor socket, can be used.
Intel Celeron or Pentium 4.

Motherboard Chipset:
The motherboard chipset consists of the Northbridge chip, and the Southbridge chip.
Chip and Chipset are slang terms for I.C.
Integrated Circuit.

The Northbridge chip handles the high-speed processes, while the Southbridge handles the low speed processes of a computer.

The Northbridge handles the Processor, Ram Memory, and any high speed graphics.

(AGP and PCI Express being high-speed graphics.
Any graphics adapter card inserted into a PCI slot, or Integrated Graphics {On-Board), is a slow speed process. Handled by the Southbridge chip)

[CPU stands for Central Processing Unit, or for short - Processor)

This is information about the Intel 845G chipset,

Scroll down on the left until you come to -
Read across.

The Nothrbridge chip is the Intel 82845G.
The Southbridge chip is the Intel ICH4.

As you can read looking across, and at the top of the chart, the 845G will support processors with;

1) Celeron, Celeron D, and Pentium 4 processors.

2) Up to a 533MHz FSB. (533MegaHertz Front Side Bus)

(Pentium 4 processors are better than Celeron.
The Celeron was designed as a budget processor.
'Celey's' generally have half of the L2 cache, that a comparable Pentium 4 has)

I felt listing this information in this manner, would help you can make an informed decision, as to what processors are compatible with the Evo D510 motherboard, instead of just stating, "Get this processor".

I will include a link of a website I found some time ago, that sells Pentium 4's with these parameters, at a very reasonable cost.

Memory inserted Wrong side

Unfortunately the memory socket has probably been damaged. An experienced electronics technician might be able to replace it, but the board could easily be damaged by the replacement work. It would probably be best to replace the motherboard in this case.
