Try the steps below to fix the spooling problem:

  1. Browse to Start -> Run... and type in NET STOP SPOOLER (this will stop the print spooler service)
  2. Browse to your windows\system32\spool\PRINTERS\ folder. You should see files there ending in .SPL and .SHD created around the time you tried to print - delete these files.
  3. Browse to Start -> Run... and type in NET START SPOOLER (this will restart the print spooler service)

Try to print a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.

How do I clear a document stuck in the print que?

If you are on a network and the printer is shared by others, you are only allowed to clear documents you have spooled to the printer. If someone else has a file jammed in the queue, then they (or an administrator) must remove it.

My printer says paper jam but i see no paper jam

There might be paper jammed internally or the spool might just be stuck. On the back of your printer should be a removable panel(it may be on the bottom depending on you make and model). After removing the panel if no pape jamer is visible try rotating the spool and reconnecting.

The ink cartridge will not eject. It's stuck inside the printer.

Canon Selphy CP800. I had a cartridge ribbon break when it stuck to some photo paper I was trying to reuse and the cartridge became stuck and would not release. All you have to do is try to print a dummy print, the printer will then display that the ink cartridge needs replacing, it will then allow the cartridge to pop out when the release catch is operated. Beware of broken and torn ribbon inside the printer and try to remove the obvious loose pieces before inserting the new cartridge. Any remaining bits of ribbon should stick to the next photo you try to print but a ruined photo is a small price to pay as your printer should work ok once the debris is cleared. If you are adventurous you can dismantle the cartridge by inserting a small flat screwdriver into the retaining clips at each end of the cartridge cover. remove the used ribbon from the spool as it is only stuck onto the spool spindle. Re thread the unused ribbon onto the spool ensuring it travels round the deflecting spindle which is easily prised out and replaced over the ribbon. You must ensure that the new ribbon is wound onto the spool in the correct direction (check this by comparing the rotation with good cartridge by ensuring the ribbon tightens as it should) then wind the ribbon forward until the black line appears on the clear sheet of ribbon and carry on printing.

Printer Spooler issues

Click "start" and go to "Run"

Type "services.msc" at the prompt which will open the Services window

Scroll down the alphabetical list in the right window pane until you come to the entry with the name "Print Spooler"

Right-click this entry, then select "stop". This will stop the computer running the process that holds
your print queues.

Leaving that window open for now, click again on "Start", and then click "My Computer" to
open a Windows Explorer window.

We've stopped the queue service, now we just have to clear the jam that is already there. To do this we navigate to the print spool folder which is hiding within the Windows folders. Usually Windows is installed on C: drive, but you should be easily able to tell when the Explorer window opens which drive it is on.

The usual path to the spool folder is
C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\PRINTERS, but yours may be slightly different.
Your windows drive may have another name for instance, but this would be uncommon.
So click on your Windows drive (usually C), then double-click on the Windows folder, and then find the
System32 folder and double-click on that. Windows may warn you that you are about to view system files, but click "View files anyway" message and search out the "spool folder". Within the Spool folder is your Printers folder, and you should open that.

Delete every file within this folder to empty the jammed print queue (pressing the "ctrl" and "a" keys will select all files and then you can just hit "delete").

Close the explorer window now that we have emptied the cleared spool files, and return to your Services window. we must re-start the Print spool service, and do so by right-clicking the Print Spool entry and selecting "Start" from the list. Close the services window and try printing again

The printer is printing so slowly.

I think what happens with these printers is Spyware and virus scanners etc... on our own machines remove the odd file..

Try putting the CD in the carriage when you are about to print something. Make sure it does not get stuck on the auto start page. Cancel and leave in carriage. Have found the odd time if the PC is looking for a file it will grab it off of the CD!

My Printer properties - Ports. Have configured mine for two ports Virtual USB and the dot4.... USB. I have enabled bi-directional printing and printer spooling. Enable printer spooling. Ensure start printing immediately is selected. Not sure if this will work but give it a go. Then Printer properties - Advanced - Always available - Spool print docs. so program finishes printing faster - Start printing immediately - Print spooled documents first - Enable advanced printing features.

Not sure if this will work but hope it helps.

I have a Lexmark 2500 series printer. There is one printing job that I try to cancel. When I chose the cancel option, the status of that job changed to deleting... and has been like that for the last 24...

Hi,
I assume you've turned everything off and back on again, including the printer and the job is still stuck.

For windows XP,
click on the start button, click on run
type
net stop spoolsv
click OK
wait 30 seconds
click on the start button, click on run
type
net start spoolsv
click OK
Open the printer and refresh the print queue, has the job cleared?

If not we will need to clear the temporary spool files from the spool folder.

click on the start button, click on run
type
net stop spoolsv
click OK

The usual path to the spool folder is
C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\PRINTERS,

Delete the files in this folder only, if you are not sure do not delete them.
Close this window.

click on the start button, click on run
type
net start spoolsv
click OK

Alternatively, if you are comfortable using the run command, do the following in sequence. Be very careful what you type *.* means everything in the folder.

net stop spooler
del %SYSTEMROOT%\system32\spool\PRINTERS\*.* /q /f
net start spooler

/Q - for no prompt
/F - to force the deletion

AS400 Spool files stuck in outq in send mode

I have WiFi Zebra QL420. In my case a simple header label prints fine then the complex label (many fields, barcode, lines & boxes) gets stuck. Labels are in separate spol files. We have many other labels printing fine, just this one ALWAYS gets stuck.
If I send same data from PC to printer it works fine.
I can see with ethernet sniffer that header label data goes but complex label doesn't even leave the iSeries. My sniffer is too crude to tell me what LPR level protocol is saying.

"spooling" when printing TurboCAD image

Spooling is a PC thing not printer Printer spool is an area of reserved memory which collects date for the printer before sending off - it seems it is not big enough to cope with the image size you are dealing with. check out the Computer route to adjust the spool memory size.
