Question about Linksys Computers & Internet

Can I use one wireless router to connect to my primary wireless router?

Hi, I have my Linksys wireless router conected to my cable using the standard co-ax cable. I am using 2 of the ethernet ports. One for my Netwok system server, the other for my printer. In another room I hhavemy xbox 360 w/out wirless but, wireless ready. I too have a new blue ray that too is wireless ready. Each wireless receiver to add on to the devices are about 50-75 bucks. So, I thought if it can be done I would get another wireless router if it could be set up to receive the signal from the first and then use ethernet cords to connect the Blue Ray and the XBox 360 so they can access my server and the internet. Thats my idea, but can it be done? Thanks in advance. cJager

You wouldn't use a wireless router for the second device -- you would use a wireless bridge device. Most Wireless Access Points can be configured to be wireless bridge devices or you may be able to find a dedicated wireless bridge. Unfortunately, these devices usually have just one Ethernet port. That will mean that you'll need to buy an Ethernet switch in addition to the device that you're going to be using as a wireless bridge. This will add to your cost and make it so there is no real cost savings by using the Wireless Bridge + Ethernet switch combination.
If you can find a wireless bridge unit that has more than one Ethernet port, then you may be in business.
Using a second wireless router will not work unless the device has the ability to be configured to be a wireless bridge. Such routers are usually more expensive than your typical router, but you might get lucky and find one at a good price.
Good Luck

Hi,
what is the wireless status in system tray? is it local or local and internet.
1. first check if it works fine with wire conection or not.
2.if it fine with cable then issue is with wireless. probably issue with Wireless security key.
3. go to available wireless networks and select the net work, if it is asking for wireless key please enter that. if you donot remember that perform router reset.that takes care of it.

Want to know how to connect another pc

Your specific model router RTP300-NA, doesn't have wireless capability- you'll need to run a cat5 or cat 6 cable to connect your pc. You may be able to share the connection from the primary pc using two wireless adapters, but it would be easier and cheaper to get a different router with wireless.

Hope that helps!

The lights are on but the linksys is not working

Certainly if the conection directly from the router to the computer is not working then the wireless won't work. So that's where I'd start. Cable connections could be an issue. The connection without the router works I assume. Make sure you are connected correctly. You need ethernet cabling to the ethernet, networking connections to and from the internet device to the computer and into and out of the router. When you get the direct router connections working you can solve your wireless problems.
