Hi, the charging connector is broken, can it be replaced easily? If so , how do i get to it? the lap top is a TJ74-RB-050UK. Cheers

the dc jack (charging connector) can usually be bought for about 5 pounds or less from ebay. As far as fitting it goes it depends how confident you are. You will need to disassembel your laptop and remove the broken jack from the motherboard and then solder the new one on.

Tip

Laptop is plugged in but says it is running on battery.

You have your laptop plugged in but when you check it says that you are running on battery. Or, you have your laptop plugged in and it will not work because the battery is dead.

Both scenarios depict a broken power port on the laptop or possibly a bad power supply. Checking the power supply is easy. Using a DMM on volts DC set to 20 place the red lead on the center pin and the black lead on the outside of the plug assembly. If you do not have the correct voltage as listed on the power supply then you need a new one. While holding the leads on the power plug wiggle the wiring to make sure there are no breaks. If the power drops to zero at any time you need a new power supply. A good site is http://www.impactcomputers.com .

Many times people do not realize that their power port is broken until it is too late. If you continue to use your laptop after the port is broken you will destroy the power supply portion of the mainboard and it will cost you half as much as the laptop cost to repair and may make it not worth fixing.

When you realize that your laptop is not running on AC power, and it could be intermittant, you need to immediately take it to a repair facility to get the jack replaced. The average cost should not exceed $150 US.

This is not a repair procedure that I can walk you through. You can only get your unit repaired at an experienced reapair facility.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating. Please consider a testimonial. Thank you.

I replace my ac power supply for my dell laptop inspiron 9100 but when connect the power supply to the laptop it keeps on blinking and the laptop does not power on

If you can , try charging the battery in another system and then try to power the laptop up with the charged battery.
If the unit will run on a charged battery, then there's a problem in the charging circuit, and you'll have to check all the components in that area.
If it doesn't, then there's a problem elsewhere on the motherboard, possibly in the DC/DC converter circuit.
Check for shorted SMT MOSFETs and blown or failing capacitors.
If you aren't tech savvy, this is not an undertaking for the inexperienced, and you may have to have the unit sent out for repair.
Most places don't do component level repair and will simply tell you that you need a new motherboard.
If you cannot find a service depot near you, you may want to consider going to www.supertech-IT.com and arrange to have the unit sent in.

How can I test voltages on the Enermax Galaxy EGA1000EWL 1000-Watt Power Supply unit out of the computer.

Most motherboards will give tell you all of the voltages being provided by the power supply in the bios under hardware or health monitoring section. Otherwise you will need a multimeter to test the different voltages. You would want to set the multimeter to the 20v or similar setting. Depending on what voltage you would want to test would determine the color of wire you would check. You would connect the black/negative/ground lead of the multimeter to one of the ground wires coming from the power supply normally a black wire. The 12v is normally a yellow wire, the 5v is normally a red wire and the 3.3v is normally an orange wire. The wires may be different colors so you may want to look up the ATX pinouts to find the exact voltages you want to measure.

You need to replace the DC Power Jack on the motherboard, of the LAPTOP.

What is the LAPTOP manufacturer name, and Model Number?

I have a mother board with 4+4 pin atx connection but the additio

The extra 4-pin connector should slide into the side of the larger connector. If the leads are the following: black/yellow/yellow/black, then this connector goes on a different location (usually close to the CPU/heatsink assy). Sometimes the PSU will not come equipped with the aux 4-pin that slides in next to the main connector... The computer generally WILL work without this connector, provided the aformentioned connector is connected in the aforementioned slot.

Acer power supply problem

Yes but it is expensive. The motherboard has to be removed from the laptop. This is a common problem in that the jack comes loose from the motherboard.
