Question about Panasonic Toughbook 72 Notebook
I have a panasonic toughbook CF-18B, wich comes with a standard 256 RAM-memory. Yesterday I added 512 extra RAM and now nothing happens anymore when I turn on the computer. No lights at all! Is it possible I blew a fuse? And if so; can this be replaced?
Many thanks in advance!
1) Remove the ram module you installed (with laptop turned off) then power on laptop.
If it laptop powers one, then either A)Your new ram chip is not compatible with your laptop (read your owners manual for the "exact" type of ram you need.) or search eBay "panasonic cf-18 ram" for example. 1 Gig ram was $32 when I just checked...
If laptop does NOT power on after you remove the new chip, then you may have accidentally fried your motherboard when installing it. Not likely, but possible. Human body can generate a lot of static electricity, if you do not "ground" yourself you can easily fry an electronic component / motherboard, etc... see this link below. If this is the case have a technician give you an estimate on repair.
Good luck !

There could be several problems with what you have done with your laptop. One of the problems which I have seen alot happen when changing ram in a laptop is you have gone over the limit of what the laptop can handle. Have you tried putting your old ram back in. If not try putting your old ram back in and see if the laptop boots up. If not then unplug your laptop and take the battery out and hold the power button down until the count of 10 mississippi which will drain the onboard power supply allowing you to reset the mother board. Did you ground yourself while working inside the laptop. If your body had any static charge to it while working inside the laptop you might have shocked the hardrive or one of the other vital parts inside. Also check your work to see that you didn't accidently knock a wire connection loose while working inside since laptops do not have alot of room to work this happens alot also.

The following website contains the needed drivers:
Select your model of CF-51 Toughbook, but you MUST be specific. There are about nine variations of the CF-51 so you must use the right drivers.
Download the hkeyapp, hkeyset, and hotkey files and unpack all files. Use the default unpack locations. If you download the files for a laptop version that is not your own, when you try to run any of these files the computer will tell you that the file is not for your model. If the files successfully unpack then you know you have the right files.
For hkeyset and hkeyapp you must run the set-up applications in the unpacked folders.
Go to Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager and go to Other Devices.
The Hotkeys will appear as an "Unknown Devices" so if there is more than one, right click and choose "Update Driver".
Select "Install driver from specific location" and direct it to "C:\util2\drivers\hotkey" folder.
The computer will find the file and install the driver after which point you must restart the computer.
Hope this helps. It took me a while to figure this stuff out on my own so hope it speeds up somebody else's attempt.
