Thomson 50DSZ645 I have *as above* dlp tv. The picture has no brightness, and has been slowly fading over the last few months. it has got to the point now where it is in storage as the picture is just about viewable with a total dark room. Any suggestions? i have been told to get a new bulb? if so, do you know which one to buy? cheers

There is only one brightness bulb for your tv. You have the main bulbs which run the color for the Tv and then you have another bulb which runs the brighness. Typically it is a flourecent bulb inside which does need replacement now and then. Check tje specks on the tv's web site and you should be able to get the model number of the bulb from them and you should be able to purchase it from a repair shop or from online

Thomson 50DSZ644. Just replaced the Lamp great picture but burned smell.. after few house it smelled verry bad..and i turned off. now when i turn on the tv the picture in middle is dark and still thi

should have unplugged it when you noticed the smell.

UNPLUG and remove and look at lamp you installed--is something in the housing where lamp goes melted? I hope you did not touch the face of the bulb with your hand or fingers.

What ever is wrong find it before trying to use set again.

Turned on tv, no picture, only sound

the problem is likely the projection lamp .. you can replace that yourself if you are handy .. you must unplug the set and make sure everything is cool ...avoid getting finger prints on the new lamp ...here are a few places where you can get a new lamp ... you can also see what it looks like on this site ...

http://www.bluestar-online.com/Mitsubishi_Model_WD_65731_Replacement_DLP_Lamp_p/wd-65731.htm?gclid=CLb9k4zf-6ACFdk55QodwT3dxw

the lamp is likely in a cubby in the back of the set (where you used to see the bright light) ...

the lamp is mounted in a cage ... you can get the lamp already mounted in a new cage from here ...

http://purelandsupply.com/WD65731-Mitsubishi-DLP-TV-Bulbs.html

......it costs more mounted but its easier to change and you will need a new cage if yours is damaged .. from the site above you can see what the cage looks like with the lamp already mounted ..

your lamp is a model 915p049010 ... that is available thru amazon at a good price here:.(includes cage)........

When I turn the tv on it takes about two minutes to get a picture basically like it is slowly coming on. The TV was purchased new on March 6, 2009 so only a few months old.

Might be its time to replace Lamp Lamps Last only between 5000 to 8000hrs you cannot leave these sets on like a regular projection TV also could be just a defective Lamp make sure Fans are running correctly sometimes they are defective. Call or visit online Encompass Parts 1-800-638-3328

Picture has green tint on startup

Jar-Head, bad news, the picture tube has a mild short in the green cathode, tech can come out and try to restore it but it`s usually a futile attempt on sony tubes, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, BMW Rider

Picture faded to black, came back, faded again and had stayed black.

It seems your set has a loose conection in the high voltage circuits,in fact by now it should have many loose conections in different areas like the power supply and the horizontal deflection circuits,if you are familiar with tv service you can use the information as the first step to take, some of the loose conections are hard to see even for the trained technician but the one giving you this problem should not be hard to see,if you are not too familiar with tv service be safe and call for assistance from a servicer a least for an estimate.
