From the brief description that you have given. it seems that your computer is set on the ....dos.. setting. most people forget that all(I.B.M.) computers still use dos. the windows programs is actully a ZEROX. program. of course with some mods.it translates the dos into icons that you may use the point and click method.

take a look at the motherboard manufacturers website and see if your motherboard will accept a 4400. You may need to update the bios on your board to accept the faster processor. You need to be careful if you flash the bios. do it wrong and you can write the board off.

Good luck

Loud beeping sound on start up , now will not start up , power ok

First remove the Ram and boot the system without it. If you hear continuous two beeps, then the problem is with the Ram, you need to replace it. If nothing happens, then your cpu or your motherboard is gone. Good luck. Thanks for using FixYa.

Hi,
If do not hear any beep then it means that the mother board is dead you can try clear the BIOS by removing the battery of the mother board for 5 mins or by shorting the jumper for clearing the BIOS if that didn't help then you have to repair the board or replace it.

have you thought about changing the battery on the motherboard, also checking that the fan on the cpu is seated properly with enough heatsink paste as both these issues will stop the pc from booting
