We accidentally hit some button on the control that made a big black square come over all our channels. We have tried everything and cannot get this off. We realize it is locked and have tried changing...

Closed Caption function is set to On in your JVC. look if there any button marked as "CC" on its remote control. If it is there, hit it till the closed caption function go off from your tv screen. If there is no such button found, get into its menu option, surf through, and get in to the closed caption option, set the close caption function OFF in that window. OK.

My TV seem to be on wide screen and it shows half the picture, how do I set it up on full screen? No other material is connected to the TV

If your TV displays a black box type shade on the screen means that your TV may be set to "Text" mode. To clear the screen, select "Caption Off mode".
To do this, press "MENU" button to display menu functions on the screen. Press "channel up or channel down" button to select the function "CAPTION". Press "Volume Up or Volume Down " button to select the mode you wish. There are five modes that you can select; Caption-Off; Caption-C1; Caption-C2; Caption-T1 and Caption-T2. As no other matereial is connected to your TV, you just select "CAPTION-OFF". When done press the Menu button again to exit menu display. Ok.

How do I turn off spanish closed caption?

the close caption feature is different than the language in the menu.
Try to find the close caption feature in the menu and get it off. Now if she hit a button then chances are you find some button with that description in the remote control (close caption or text) make sure is off.

There is a big black box blocking the screen and it will not come off. how do i solve this problem without a original remote.

Check your TV's closed-caption settings. You'll likely find it's set for TEXT mode. Turn off captions or set for CC1 or CAPTION 1 if you want to use the captions. Your trouble is due to the set blanking out a block on the screen where the text should go, but there isn't any text to display. Most TV remotes have a single button for caption control, so it's easy to get into text mode without knowing it. Then on channels where captions are being broadcast you'll see the box. On other channels or programs you don't see it.

Please take a moment to give this solution a fixya rating if it clears up your trouble, and thanks for asking here!

Not a lot of info your giving us, but what it sounds like is the closed caption is on. Take the remote and there should be a button on the original remote unit, or the closed caption is controlled by the menu. Good Luck

Black rectangle on t.v. screen

It sounds like you have the Text feature on the closed caption option turned on. your going to most likly need an original remote to turn this feature off as far as i know of. If you do not have an original toshiba remote to turn off the clkosed caption or in some sets you have to go into the menu to turn this feature off, maybe you can borrow one from a friend that has one or you can get one from Good liuck and let us know if you need more assistance
