If it is 5 months old, it is time to pull out your warranty and get it fixed at the store.

If it's new, back up your data and send it in to get it repaired. Go to www.acer.com then click on "service and support". It will then give you some options towarrd the botton of the screen. Click "Fix My Acer". or just click here http://secure2.tx.acer.com/FixMyAcer3/FixMyAcer.aspx

Fill out the information and get an RMA number (you may have to call for this info) ...send it in and get it fixed before your warranty runs out.

Booting problem

You may have to boot from a CD and make a repair.
Once logged in the CD, choose repair option (Recovery Console), and type these three commands:
1) fixmbr (wait til it finishes)
2) fixboot (wait...)
3) CHKDSK (this will take longer than the previous two.
Your laptop may now boot normally. I think your laptop doesn't have an internal CD-ROM so you may use an external USB CD.

Hellpppp!!

You want to clean off your laptop so it looks like it came from the factory? Wipe out all the files you've put on it, and only have a fresh operating system?

-- Make sure you have the "Factory restore" or "system restore" discs from Acer. They can ship another copy to you for $5.
-- Make sure you have the Windows product key code, readable. (My sticker wore off in a hurry).
-- IF you are giving your computer to someone else, download Darin's Boot and Nuke, and use that to purge the hard drive of everything, using the default recommended thing, like 5 or 7 passes
-- Restart using the factory restore discs, and follow instructions.

Old gateway desktop tries to start up but just shows white screen or menu

the last time my friend's old cp would not start and showed a white screen, it was nothing else than changing the power box that had gone dead from overheating - the fan was stuck hard since weeks!

your screen wiring may have gone bad. if you plug a regular monitor into the laptop, try pressing function + F4 or one of the F keys at the top. It should have a little monitor icon on it. Its a different key on some laptops. It will switch the display to use the monitor. Are you able to get a picture that way?

You are going to have to replace your LCD screen. If you are technically astute, then there are instructions that I can send you... if not , then taking it to a shop would be your best bet.

Re-install windows, then it will ask you for the Restore disk 1 then 2 then 3. I think the Ghost that is factory installed is a fars.
If it doesnt ask you for the Restore disks - just stick # 1 in and she'll tale over from there and re-write the Ghost issue again ...
I did that same for my Boss's 5040 last week. Dont forget to go into the Bios and reset the Boot sequense to CD Rom, and then
change the Booting sequense back after the restore has taken place.

Give it a shot Bud.
