SOURCE: Dell Inspiron 6400 Keyboard key came off

I just got a dell inspiron 1720 and got a chunk of food under a key. And like you was not sure if the key was removable or not. well it was.. I GENTLY pulled it up and it poped off. It has very small groves that clip onto retaining wires.. very small and fragile looking. not saying yours is the same but if you can see under the key since it is up a little you may be able to tell... it was harder then I thought to put the key back on... pushed pretty hard and then POP it was on... If you dont feel comfortable doing it take it in. And like I said yours may not be the same as mine. if for some reason it is broke where it wont go back on, you should be able to order a new keyboard for it, IF you feel you can change one out.

SOURCE: wireless keyboard keys sticking

on most keyboad you can take of each key. Try to get a flat head screw driver and pop it of with some force. You then can clean the keys. If this does not work you might need a new keyboard. Do not use water (or very little)

SOURCE: Dell Inspiron 1440 keyboard keys issue

you need to isolate this issue first.
where are you typing? inside IE or in MSWord?
If both has issues then try typing in the DOS Command Window. If same issue try to boot in safe mode and check if you will still be getting same issue in safe mode. If all yes try to check the bios and update it by downloading the latest bios version from the support site from dell.

When I try typing online I don't get letters and I hear a clicking noise for each letter I press. Why?

Go to "Command Prompt" screen and see if your keyboard types correctly. It such be under the "Accessories" menu. A window will pop up where you can test the keyboard. If it works fine in that window then I would suspect that you have a software problem, like a virus or malware issue. You can download a free anti-virus program from Microsoft called "Windows Security Essentials" if you are running a version of Windows.

Number and letter keys are stuck (type) together

This model has no numlock as it has no keypad. It looks like a faulty keyboard as the linked keys appear to be in the same column in the keyboard grid. You could try Fn+F11 as this solves certain other keyboard problems with symbols etc. Otherwise could be a new keyboard required.

My computer is dell inspiron, the letter 'd' in my keyboard is not working, and when i'm turning on my computer for the first time, always letter 'd' is being typed by itself

If this is a wired keyboard (USB or PS2) then turn off the computer. Unplug the keyboard, and bang it against your palm to work some of the debris out of the keyboard. Now check the d key and make sure it bounces back when pressed.

You might also take a small screw driver and pry the d key off the key board and see if there is anything sticky on it. If so try cleaning with alcohol.

Last ditch effort before replacing the keyboard completely: Run the key board under running water to rinse it. MAKE SURE YOU LET IT DRY FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS (KEYS DOWN) BEFORE PLUGGING BACK IN. I have had this method work more than once. If it works its great if not, then non of the key board will work.

My daughters key board on her lap top has started to act crazy you can't backspace and you can not type double letters you have to wait a second for it to keep typing any suggestions

First, try to connect an external USB keyboard & see if it will work fine.
If the external USB keyboard works fine, then you will need to replace your laptop's keyboard, as there is almost nothing that can be done to fix a defective laptop keyboard.

The letter "C" popped off

Hi Madelaine_an,

I'm sure that when the letter popped off, two white plastics also came off beneath the letter. Now if you kept them and did not throw them away, you have to first fix both of them, one facing up, the other facing down. There are two insertion points on the missing space on your key board where they are to fit into. These white plastics have edges on them, and can be a little bit depressed to fit into their insertion points, where they expand to fill it after fitting. They are designed such that when you see them you would know which goes into what direction. If you try it one way and it doesnt fit in, then you are trying it wrongly. Reverse the directions. After you have done that, get your letter 'C', and press it into the white plastic. If you fixed the white plastic well, the key should lock into it, but be flexible, ie move up and down.

I hopoe that was able to solve your problem? I would appreciate a rating.
Have a nice day.
