The passphrase is used to generate the encryption code in the router's wireless configuration.

SOURCE: Zoom 3G router. I have a pin on my 3G modem - how

A Pin...this means that when you first connect you are sent to a special site, and you have to enter a pin on a web page? Or you have to have a special app to enter it?
Disable it, and use WPA security with a good (decent length, not dictionary based) pass phrase. Is the wire to your modem the insecure piece? Or the Wi-Fi that is accessible to someone in the adjacent street?
Unless your circumstances are odd, the wire to your modem is as secure as the interior of your home, while the wi-fi need to be well locked down. WPA2 with a good passphrase is as good as it gets. Well, using actual wires is faster, more secure and more reliable. But WPA or WPA2 is fairly good (WEP is fairly useless, it has been thoroughly cracked now and can be hacked with the right toolkit in a minute or two).

Router 8 digit pin number

go into the router page at: http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.2.1 login then go to wps, thats the 8 digit pin. You can hack it using a rtl8187 wifi adapter, linux, aircrack-ng, and reaver-wps to crack the pin but it will take 6-8 hours from what I've read.

8 digit pin

  1. Connect to the router with a network cable to one of the LAN ports
  2. Open the admin menu at 192.168.1.1
  3. Login with admin / 1234.
  4. Click on GENERAL SETUP -> WIRELESS -> SECURITY SETTINGS
  5. Set "Encryption" to WPA Pre-Shard key
  6. Set the WPA UNICAST to WPA2 (AES) or WPA2 (Mixed)
  7. Set the pre-shard key format to passphrase.
  8. In the field Pre-Shared Key type in the password for the wireless network. It should be at least 8 characters in length. Write down this password. You will need to enter the password when you connect with your WLAN clients to the network.
  9. Click APPLY and APPLY again to restart the router.
  10. Wait for about two minutes, then re-scan your WLAN networks on your Windows 7 system and connect just like before. Now you need to type in the password you set up under step 8.

My network setup is asking for a pin number that is on my router. Obviously there is no pin number for this particular router and my network is asking for a 4 or 8 digit number. What do I do?

If its asking for a pin number I would check the sticker on the bottom of the router. it may have the router PIN you are looking for. If not trying typing in your internet browser address bar 192.168.1.1 and find the network settings and see if there is a pin set up, if so write it down or clear it to have no PIN

I have a zoom 8050 foot controller buy have lost the data cable (8 pin). can you help me find one, or suggest a replacement cable? zoom/samson were not helpful at all. thanks. mic

I could not find a manual online to check on cable type, however if the cable has the little plastic connectors similar to the telephone jack type but are 8 pin, then just get a standard 8 pin Ethernet cable at a local computer store. Some pedal boards use these.

Another option ios to get connectors and make your own.
