Naturally, the easiest and simplest way to reset win 7 password is reset it with win 7 password reset disk or use the net user command to reset it. So you should check whether you have a pre-created windows 7 password reset disk, or have another available account who has administrator privilege before you try other solutions to solve this problem.

I need to factory reset my computer, I am the administrator of the computer my password has been working and all of a sudden it quit, don't know it or it's messed up so i need to reset the computer wi

There are multiple ways to reset the administrative password, some requiring more PC familiarity than others. I don't know what you are running, XP or 7 on this 2011 notebook but the below may help in either case.

If your computer is part of a network, the systems administrator can change the password without knowing the prior password.

If there is a 2nd administrator account on the computer and you know the password of that account, you can use it to change the password. See: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Operating-Systems-Software-Recovery/I-FORGOT-MY-ADMINISTRATOR-PASSWORD/td-p/247032

You might be lucky enough to discover that even though you have had an administrative account with a password, you might also have one that does not have a password! To check for this, at the login screen press CTRL-ALT-DEL twice. Type is Administrator as a user name and leave the password blank and hit enter. You can then go to Control Panel's User Accounts and reset your password from there.

If none of the above applies and you have access to another computer, you can use a password reset disc that you have to burn such as http://pogostick.net/~pnh/ntpasswd/ or by folllowing process in Hiren's Boot CD (google for that). The pogostick should work with XP or Windows 7. A user on the HP link advises you to enter a wrong password and only after you are prompted to reset the password do you insert the password reset disk and click a link.

The point is that you may not have to go to a factory reset if you can simply reset the password. Read through the HP link I provided and you may find just what fits your situation.

If you discover your computer has enough problems that you need to indeed go back to factory defaults, let us hope that at least XP SP3 was installed at the factory when it was released. If you get to the recovery console by pressing F10 (for the XP) repeatedly or F11 (possibly for Windows 7), you may be able to make use of system restore rather than a destructive factory reset which would wipe your data. Hope this helps.

A Windows password reset disk is always used to reset Windows password if you have created in advance.

If you have already have one, so just do as below:
Here are the steps to use the disk for your password recovery.

Step 1: If you enter the wrong password when you attempt to log on, Windows will display a message that the password is incorrect. Click "OK" to close the message box.
Step 2: Click "Reset Windows Password", and then insert Windows password reset disk (or other removable media).
Step 3: Follow the steps in the "Password Reset Wizard" to create a new password.
Step 4: Log on with the new password.

If you do not have a reset disk, you can use Windows Password Reset ( http://www.windowspasswordreset.net ) to create one.

Solution 1: Reset Windows 7 password with Windows password reset disk
    • 1. If you enter the wrong password when you attempt to log on, Windows displays a message that the password is incorrect. Click OK to close the message.
    • 2. Click Reset password, and then insert Windows password reset disk (or other removable media).
    • 3. Follow the steps in the Password Reset Wizard to create a new password.
    • 4. Log on with the new password. If you forget your password again, you can use the same password reset disk. You don't need to make a new one.
Reference: How to create Windows 7 password reset disk?
Troubleshooting

    • The Windows password reset disk cannot be used to reset the password on another computer. The password reset disk cannot be used to reset the password on another computer.
    • The Windows password reset disk contains sensitive information. Other users may be able to use the password reset disk to gain access to your computer. For this reason, store this disk in a safe and secure location
Solution 2: Reset Windows 7 password with another admin account
    • 1. Log on to the administrator account that you will use to reset the forgotten password.
    • 2. Open Local Users and Groups by clicking the Start button reset-windows-7-password_clip_image002.gif, typing lusrmgr.msc into the Search box, and then pressing ENTER.‌ reset-windows-7-password_clip_image004.gif If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    • 3. Double-click Local Users and Groups, and then click Users.
    • 4. Right-click the account that you need to reset the password for, and then click Set Password.
    • 5. Type and confirm the new password.
Solution 3: Reset Windows 7 password from the command prompt In the command prompt you can monitor all the user of the computer by typing some commands.

    • Press Win Key+R and type “cmd” in the Run command box and hit enter to open command prompt.
    • Type “net user” in the command prompt and hit “Enter“. This will show all the users of the computer.
windows-7-password.gif

Now suppose that you want to change the password of the user “xyz“.
So type the following command and hit enter.
net user <username> *
For instance in this example the user name is xyz. So the command should be
net user xyz *
Now in the comman prompt you will be prompted to enter a password for the user. Note that the ****** format is not available here. Put your password and hit “Enter“. You have to retype the password again for confirmation
windows-password-recovery.gif Voila! You have changed the password of the user without knowing the older password of the user. It is a simple hack to change the password of any user easily from the command prompt in Windows XP.
But the drawback of this technique is that you can’t reset Windows password of the users if you do not have the Administrator privilege. So it is quite hard to change the password of the users without logging in as the administrator.
Solution 4: Reset Windows 7 password with Windows password reset CD If you have neither another administrator nor Windows password reset disk, you’d better DIY a Windows password reset CD to reset Windows 7 password without reinstalling. Just following steps, even a novice is able to handle this Windows password recovery software with ease.
1. Download Windows Password Unlocker from Password Unlocker Official site
2. Decompress the Windows password unlocker and note that there is an .ISO image file. Burn the image file onto a blank CD with the burner freely supported by Password Unlocker.
3. Insert the Windows password reset CD into the locked computer and re-boots it from the CD drive.
4. After launched the CD, a window pop up with all your account names (if you have several accounts); select one of the accounts that you have forgotten its password to reset it. Just one press, you have reset Windows password.
Well, the four solutions are the popular Windows 7 password recovery ways.
In addition, there are some good help sites which also provide detailed solutions to reset Windows 7 password for those who forgot Windows Administrator password. Like http://www.petri.co.il/forgot_administrator_password.htm and http://windows.microsoft.com

I forgot my username and password how can override im using windows 7.

Windows 7 allows us to create a Windows password reset disk (USB key) in case that we lost the Win 7 logon password. When we lose the password of Win 7, we can reset a new one with the created disk. The weak point is that you can only create the disk before losing your Windows 7 password. If you do not create that, it could not help.

If you have an available administrator account on your system, you can get your password back easily. Logon Win 7 system with the admin account, and then you can come to the Control Panel and change or delete other accounts' passwords. Just three steps:

Step 1: Click Start -> Control Panel -> Add or remove user accounts

Step 2: Choose the locked administrator account

Step 3: Click Change the password or Remove the password. And then you can change or remove the lost or forgotten password

If you do not have another available administrator account, you could try some third party software. There is plenty of third party software for password recovery on Windows 7 online. all of them are designed to create a Windows password recovery disk. With the disk you can recover your lost Windows 7 password. I highly recommend Windows Password Recovery Tool 3.0 and use it as an example. What you need to do is just three steps (you need another computer to create the disk):

Step 1: Download Windows Password Recovery Tool 3.0

Step 2: Burn a Windows password recovery disk with the software

Step 3: Create Windows 7 password reset disk

I think the most efficient is using third party Windows password recovery software. Have a try.
