Just purchased this old system today. What great mistake I made. Here is my question. The subwoofer is connecter to the proper location behind the receiver and will turns on the green lights without issues, I can also hear the power when i touch the the tip of the monster cable, but the thing doesn't make any sound. Any help around here??

Are the RCA cables connected to the correct spot in the system, and to the amp? And is the amp turned up?

  • Tata O Feb 09, 2012

I was using a monster cable, which the previous owner brought with. And the volume was up. I've just started to read the manual online, as he didn't have one!

SOURCE: Onkyo subwoofer not working

I fixed my subwoofer. The resistor at R16 (right next to the fuse) was the fried component. I removed it and replaced it with a 13K ohm 5 watt metal oxide resistor (from Mouser Electronics if not available locally). Works fine now. I got the solution and the circuit schematic from an audio hobbiest at diyAudio.com. This is, evidently, a fairly common problem.

SOURCE: SP-PWM505

MOst of the time it is the jack that the cable plugs into that has the problem. .
Also the jack is not broken but HAS broken the solder connection TO the jack.
If you know someone who can safely take it apart and solder, let them try.

SOURCE: Our DVD/Receiver won't turn on and its not a power cord/pluggin in issue...

I removed the cover from the receiver and check the fuse with a meter. It check fine. Reassembeled the unit, plugged it in, powered the unit and ALL IS FINE. I don't know if the fuse had worked itself loose (don't really think so) or just lucky.

Hiya, sorry that will have to go in for repair as it sounds like it may be protecting. Could be something loose but that would be lucky. Suggest finding a electronics shop in area that can assist. Best of luck

SKW 540. green power light turns on but why no sound?

Hello Johnny, As a test to see if the subwoofer is working I would have you run one simple test. Unplug the subwoofer from the receiver and apply your finger to the end of the cable. If the subwoofer is working then you will hear feedback through the receiver as you put your finger on it. If there is no feedback this is usually a good indication that the subwoofer is no longer working. Thanks, FJD

It's possible that you have accidentally switched off the sub-woofer outputs on the receivers. Onkyo have a speaker set up test. You should run that and see if the speakers are on and that a signal is getting through to them.

many pple have the same problem.... that subwoofer stops working sometimes when playing music or something else... I also faced the same problem .... I did the following things..

open your subwoofer. checked all connections for any loose contacts... and then check the wire of the main speaker.....

IF YOU FIND DIFFICULTIES IN OPENING OR IF YOU DONT KNOW MORE ABOUT THE INTERNAL PARTS OF SUBWOOFERS.. THEN DONT TRY TO OPEN IT.. YOU MAY CAUSE DAMAGE TO IT...IN THIS CASE :

No sound coming out of my Onkyo SKW-200 subwoofer

A subwoofer is just really a mono amp for the signal. As with all amps if you touch the audio section/parts with a small screwdriver, you should hear a buzz from the speaker. (Follow the audio wires to be certain you are on the audio section). This can be used for testing the amp section. If you get no buzz or noise (anywhere) at all then it's power supply could be playing up. If you have a multimeter you can test it looking to see if it is getting power. Allways suspect any part that is on a heatsink. Before removing any suspect you can put the part numbers into Google to see if you can get them and it will give you a clue to cost.
PS don't short any parts when you touch with a screwdriver, and don't put it on the power parts.

Center/subwoofer speaker out...mixed

Hi all, I also purchased a logitech x-540 a few days ago and also have the center speaker outputting sound when i test or play the subwoofer. I didn't think this is normal and am now confused. Maybe its a problem with the audio drivers? MB is a ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 with Soundmax drivers. Hopefully someone can help to diagnose/ find a soluytion.

Rear and Centre speakers not working

The system comes with l remote which provides controls for "Power", "Master Volume", "Bass (Subwoofer) Volume" and "Matrix Mode" . Matrix mode allows you to spread stereo sound to all speakers where your sound card may not have the ability to do so.
I find that the "Stereo Surround" setting works best as opposed to the recommended "CMSS" setting

Connect DVD Player to logitech X 540 Surround System

Bad connection on that one speaker, if you have tested the system with other equipment and it works thn you MUST have a bad connection INSIDE you DVD player. If your DVD had a whole channel out on your output amplifier I beleive then 2 speakers would not work so more than likely you have a bad solder joint inside system for DVD output
