Question about Computers & Internet
Just got the Asus Crosshair II Formula motherboard, AMD 9950 BE cpu & 8 gigs of 6400 ram. Slapped the entire setup together made sure that everything was done correctly and tried to power up the system. Inititally the system stayed on about 5 secs, and then just started cycling. Called Asus tech support and the guy I spoke to said that it sounded like a grounding issue. Told me to put electrical tape over the brass studs coming off the case and then retry. Did that and there is no significant change. Please, I need to have this system up and running before tomorrow morning, so any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry this is kinda late, but I have the exact same problem. Turns out, if you have the bios version, 0502, then that will NOT support the 9950 BE processor. You will have to flash the bios to the newer version which is 1003. So I went and bough a $20 sempron 64 3400+ processor, so I can get it to boot up and then I can flash it. Now thats what I call a pain in the ***.

Hi, To troubleshoot a grounding problem like this remove the entire motherboard (keeping all the necessary connections) and lay it on a wood cutting board ( wood is a bad conductor of electricity) and try to boot up and watch it. Make sure its fairly secure so it doesnt get knocked aside, and be especially gentle and touch the board only on the edges.
This will eliminate whether it is a shorting problem.
Present the result to the MOBO support and they will probably replace the board.
I hope this helps, good luck. *s*
