My sander doesn't run at full speed - it's slow. I've changed the carbon brushes but this hasn't helped.

if it sparks a lot at the brushes , then there is an armature or winding fault
sanders are cheap so junk it and upgrade

I inherited this sander (Porter-Cable model 330) and the owners manual did not come with it. I am stumped as to how and get the side levers to lift so that i can change the sandpaper (non-stick paper)....

there is a wrench supplied with the tool that you need to insert in the slot on the clamp and push the wrench towards the tool to open the clamp. Now if you follow closely I can direct you to a manual and parts list. Go to "dewaltservicenet.com" and scroll down to the bottom and you will find a porter cable link, click on that and then when you get to the next page click on tools. Scroll down till you find sanders and click on that. Next find finishing sanders and you will find your model sander click on the description and it will again redirect you to another page where you can find the manual. The whole manual is 44 pages long but that includes other languages. The page that you specifically need is page 10. If you have a problem let me know and I will try and help. This is the first time that I have had to take this route to find a manual on their site.

There is a belt adjustment know on the side of the sander. Turn the adjustment know back and forth while the sander is running until it centers itself.

How to change pad?

this is easy done, just follow the steps:

1. disconnect the power cord
2. turn polisher pad up
3, grip firmly randomiser in one hand (that is this bulky bit between pad and polisher)
4. grip pad and rotate it against arrow direction.

if you just need to change the abrasive, these are on hook and loop and you just lift it from the pad and replace with new one.

this action will separate pad from randomiser, if you need to remove randomiser as well, you will need spanner of appriopriate size or adjustable.

you have manual available for download on this site:

http://powertool.manualsonline.com/manuals/mfg/portercable/7335_7336_7336sp_7355_7366_7424.html

if you find my advice useful, please do not hesitate to leave a comment and vote4 for me, thanx!

I have a porter cable 7800 sander, when i turned on the sander everything is spinning but the orbital part. i have changed the brushes and other minor things but dont have a clue how to open the orbital...

The best way to sand drywall is to use a pole sander (manually). You can pick them up for about $20.

This particular machine tends to leave grooves in the drywall compound if you are not familiar with how to use it.

If you should have any questions about "Drywall Finishing/Patching", or know someone who does, put your questions to Category:"Tools- Building & Power- HAND TOOLS" at FixYa.com

Motor & pulley

It would take 6" pully w/ a 2.25" which would not fit on that machine, no room for the 6". Replace with the same RPM motor is the proper way, unless you simply want a slower speed sander, duh! You cannot change the motor rpm without a defenant power issue, if you change the rpm your sander will power out, sorry?

Need a wiring diagram for a delta drum sander

Here's a link to the online manual.
As far as that diagram....didn't you label the wires?
Take a look here, it may help you. circuit wiring , especially the paragraph that begins: "Knowing that electrically common points have zero voltage drop between them is a valuable troubleshooting principle." Also read about resistors. That speed control knob is one.
Hope that helps...
