Your locals may be broadcasted on a a different satellite (directv uses 7 different ones). when u travel, your dish on your rv might be capable of receiving the satellite that broadcasts normal programming. the dish on your home may look a little different and picks up more than one of the satellite signals. also these satellites are in different locations

Hello I can hardly hear on all of my channels. I have directv and I can't get a reasonable volume. Is there something I can do to fix this problem?

Directv low volume problem.
One sure way to eliminate Directv's low volume and any other volume problems in general is by installing a stereo compressor between your Directv receivers audio outputs and your TV's audio inputs. (Simply plug the compressor's outputs into TV and your receiver outputs into the compressor's inputs). By correctly setting the controls on the compressor, you won't loose the dynamic program content. Not only will it raise the volume level to where you want it be, it will also prevent it from exceeding any set level you chose, actually limiting how loud any sound can be. These settings are fully adjustable. In other words when you switch from Directv back to a dvd or any source, no more sound blasting, you can set levels to be the same now since you have raised then adjusted Directv's level to normal. Plus a compressor will raise those low hard to hear audio sections often found in movies. This is the reason we used them all the time in the recording industry. Another benefit is it levels all channels on Directv. The result, channels are now the same volume. This is what I'm doing to end the problem. Hope this helps someone. J Pynckel

Want to run my dtv receiver through new digital converter box.

You will not be able to record local station from a DTV converter connected thru a directv receiver unless there is a a/v input on the directv samsung receiver. Also check the user manual for this receiver if recording from an external source such as a DTV converter box is possible. The answer to seperating the DTV converter box from the directv samsung receiver is possible if your tv has multiple inputs. Try connecting the DTV box to the RF input and the directv samsung box to an a/v input then change inputs using the tv remote. you will need an av cable (yellow/ red/white) for the directv box and a rf jumper cable for the DTV box.

Have Direct TV using a Sony Digital Satellite receiver model #SAT B2-2 /Sony Satellite dish purchased in 7/97. I get local channels thru Direct TV. Recently, local channels will show on the Direct TV guide...

Your dish is out of alignment. The local channel satellite doesn't have as strong of a signal, so a slight misalignment will cause problems.

It could also be an F-connector needs to be replaced at the dish or multiswitch (if you have one). Sometimes moisture builds up inside the connector and corrodes the copper stinger inside.

If you go into your satellite signal strength menu and find the local channel satellite, you're sure to see either a weak signal or an intermittent one.

One more thing, if a tree has grown in the line of sight between the dish and the satellite, this will cause signal problems too. In this case, you either have to trim the tree or move the dish.

Hope this helps!

P.S.
The customer service reps at DirecTV usually idiots reading from a script with no real field experience.

part of losing the channels is the digital transitions. some channels may come in some may not depending on the strength while this transition takes place. resatart the receiver and run the initial set-up. make sure the not to skip the zip code part

Loss of channels

If you mean "losing" as in you could no longer tune to those channels because they disappeared out of the channel list entirely, then it's likely a software problem.  If you haven't already, try resetting your DVR to factory settings (since this unit is TiVo powered, it should be under the main menu, Messages and Settings, then Restart or Reset system; follow the on-screen instructions to reset the system).

If you mean "losing" as in you can tune to the channel but there's no signal, then that sounds like a tuner problem to me.  If the box is still under warranty or you lease it, have it repaired or replaced.  If you bought the box and the warranty is up, it looks like you might have to get a new one, or pay for the repair out of pocket.

You might also try calling back to DirecTV tech support and asking to be escalated or to speak with a supervisor; especially if it's a box you're leasing from them, since it is definitely *their* problem in that case.

Hi

Have questions about your upgrade? We've got the answers. What do I need to do to receive my upgrade? Nothing! Just make sure your DIRECTV HD DVR is continuously connected to your land-based phone line and you will receive the upgrade automatically. When will I receive my upgrade? The 6.3 software upgrade will roll out over a period of several weeks. Customers with more than one DIRECTV HD DVR may receive their upgrades at different times for each receiver. We appreciate your patience while we deliver these new and improved features to eligible DIRECTV HD DVR customers nationwide. Are all DIRECTV DVRs receiving this upgrade? No. DIRECTV DVR models SONY SAT-T60, PHILIPS DSR6000R and HUGHES GXCEBOT will not receive the 6.3 software upgrade. Other models received a similar upgrade, 6.2, in the past. I have a DIRECTV R10 DVR with 6.1 software. Will I receive this upgrade? No. The 6.1 software on the DIRECTV R10 DVR already includes the 6.2 features such as folders and faster menu scrolling. Will any of my DVR settings be changed as a result of the upgrade? Yes, some of your settings or preferences will be changed back to the factory default settings as a result of the upgrade. These include: "Favorite Channels," "Channels You Receive," "Spending Limits," "Clear Channel Banner Quickly" and "Dolby Digital" recording and output. To change Channel Banners, Channels You Receive and Favorite Channels preferences: 1. Select "Messages and Setup" 2. Select "Settings" 3. Select "Channels" To change Spending Limits: 1. What happens if I don't have my phone line plugged into my DIRECTV DVR? You will not be able to receive the upgrade if your DIRECTV DVR is not connected to your phone line. To install the upgrade, your receiver must successfully make a call to our servers. How will I know when I have received my upgrade? You'll receive an on-screen message the first time you visit DIRECTV Central after your upgrade is complete. It will also appear in your Messages section. You can also check your System Information screen to find out which software version you currently have. Will the download delete any of my currently saved programs? No. All of your saved programs will still be there for your enjoyment after the installation. Once your upgrade is complete... How do I activate the Grouping (folders) option? 1. Go to your Now Playing List. 2. Press Enter on your remote control. 3. Change groups to ON.
