Try checking the spark plug if it sat for a long period of time it may be faulty, or the fuel might have built up condensation in it.

SOURCE: starter rope on bv2000 weed eater blower needs to be replaced.

Hi, Try the following, But make dure you can wind the spring. If not the spring is broken.
Kurt
This usually happens at the most inopportune time. You go out mow the lawn, pull the rope and it comes out in your hand. Here's how to fix it yourself.
First, we'll talk about a simple rope replacement. In most cases you will have to remove the blower housing from the engine to get to the underside of the rewind starter where the rope is. We'll assume at this point that the spring is ok and you can just wind it back up again. You can check the spring by turning on the hub in a counter-clockwise direction and see if the spring gains tension. Do not try to remove the spring from its holder or you may end up having to take the mower in for service.
1. Remove the rope from around the hub. Since there is no tension, it should come right out. If you are lucky and it broke near one end, you can probably just re-use it. If it is badly frayed or too short, you will need to find a replacement at a local hardware store.
2. Attach the handle or tie a knot in one end of the rope so it will not wind all the way into the hub. You also may want to burn the rope ends to keep them from fraying and causing a problem in the future. Set the rope aside where you can grab it once you wind up the spring.
3. Wind the hub in a counter-clockwise direction using your thumb to keep it from unwinding, until the spring is tight. Then let it come back slightly so the rope hole in the starter housing lines up with the rope hole in the hub.
4. Stick the rope through both holes while holding the hub from unwinding. This is tricky because you don't want the hub to unwind on you before you have the rope secured in it. A pair of needle nose pliers or a small screwdriver or pick may help get the rope through.
5. Tie a half hitch knot in the rope after you have it through both holes. While holding the rope, release your hold on the hub and let the rope slowly pull itself back into the starter.
6. Put the blower housing back on and your ready to start the engine & mow.

SOURCE: honda generator

if the rope tore but the spring is ok, it fairly simple to fix. get a new cord, remove pull recoil cover and wined the coil in the direction against the spring tension estimating the lenght of the new rope(cord) line up the hole where the cord goes through and push the new cord through and tie a knot in it, then tie the pull handle on the end outside the recoil, then release it and reinstall pull cover.

Pulled starter rope, it's now stuck and won't recoil

Cool!
A Project.
Remove the spark plug lead just so you can't have it accidently fire.
Remove engine cowlings as necessary to get at recoil starter.
Remove recoil starter (that's the bit that the pull rope is attached to.
Dis-mantle it until you can find what is wrong. Fix or replace.
Put it all back together.
or
Take it to a small engine repair shop and pay a bunch.

How to fix recoil starter?

It appears that the recoil spring is broken or has come away from its anchor position. It means opening the unit (usually 4 screws) and re-seating the recoil spring and rewinding the recoil spring so that it will recoil the starter rope with the correct tension. It may take a few attempts to get it right. If you do get it right, don't over-extend the starter rope when starting the washer. Someone was over-zealous!

Broken starter cord on briggs and stratton quantum 40 roughly 1994 how to repair

Remove the recoil. Sometimes depending up on model this required complete air shroud removal. Remove the parts of the old rope. Remove the rope fro the rope handle. NOTE the knot in the handle. Brun both ends of the nylon rope with a match and pinch the burned end into as small of circumference as possible. Install new rope into the starter handle and tie the knot. Pull the new rope into the handle until it seats securely.

Prewind the recoil pulley as far as you can easily wind it. Back it off (unwind) just until the rope guide and pulley knot hole are aligned. Then either c-clamp it in place with the rope knot hole aligned with the rope guide hole or have a 2nd person hold it the pretensioned spring and pulley in position. Thread the rope through the rope guide and on into the pulley knot hole. (takes some effort to get it aligned and through the knot hole!) Pull the new rope through the knot hole and tie 1 knot. Pull starter rope and fit knot into pulley knot hole. Release pulley C-clamp or have helper let go of pulley. Rope should rewind into the recoil.

Reinstall recoil / air shroud. Happy mowing!

Starter rope broke how do i replace it. toro super recycler mower. Removed the plastic engine cover and the recoil mechanism seems to be rivited down and I cant get in there to replace the rope. Please...

You have to remove the whole engine air shroud over the flywheel to gain access to the recoil and rope mechanism. If you need specific help on your exact model engine I need all of engine model type numbers 5 to 6 char then 4 char then 2 char i.e XXXXXX-YYYY-ZZ for B & S Honda numbers are by the engine oil port on the base of the crank case. Can't find replacement recoil kit

What engine is on your presure washer? I really need a model number to give you the correct information.

If you have the engine model number you can look the engine up on the net at:
http://jackssmallengines.com/help.cfm
and find your recoil assy.

If it is just the rope that broke you can take the recoil to any lawn mower repair shop and they will repair your recoil by replacing the needed parts or replace the rope. You do not need to take the whole unit to the lawn mower repair shop. FYI a NEW honda recoil assy ranges from $32.00 - $68.00 depending on net source.

Thanks for using FixYa.
